Closed/Open intake VS Water

Hi all.

Ok so we all know intakes look and sound great but are only needed if upgrading the turbo needing a bigger MAF housing so no question there.
But what is the question is 80% of all EVO X intakes place the filter at the snorkel which is also near or under the driver side hood vent.
So now here it come with a open elem filter system would or could water get in or on the filter when driving in the rain or through a car wash?
Closed elem filter systems should be a little safer in this fact. how many people took the metal plates off the bottom of the plastic vent to let more air out the bay?

Bonus Question

Who took the alumin shield off the hood scoop or just cut the back out to open it to let more air into the bay? Was there any problem there also when raining like water getting on the hot turbo?

AFE Stage 2 DryflowS intake here and zero issues in hard rain, car washes, etc.

I cut open the metal ducting on the hood scoop it allow more airflow over the manifold & turbo; again, no issues. My opening in the metal is the same size as the scoop now.

As long as you don't submerge the filter element in water ie. Drive threw a pond, you wont have any issues

Well today I took off the heat shield under the hood scoop and will later put black chicken wire across it. I think since my 8 I took off the shield under the hood vent which was over the turbo like most older evo drivers do i had no problems with driving in the rain or running the car a while then going trough a car wash the x should be ok. My biggest worry was pushing the car then having water fall on the turbo or manifold causing damage. Any one else take the whole aluminum piece under the scoop and not just cut it bigger?

Yesterday it rained pretty good and every thing seems good. After the rain I dried off the hood and scoop then opened to see where the water fell. There was a little water on the engine cover and the manifold heat shied but not enough to pool. Manifold was dry and turbo was a little wet from spray most the water hit the fire wall and ran down behinde the turbo. I will be getting the chicken wire on the 1st after I install I will post pics. I would take off both plastic vents and just use the CW but I think it will look ugly so I am leaving them in.

Has any one cut out or ordered a front bumper like pictured below and if running stock or after market box intakes would this suck up water into the filter really bad?
Because this might be the next body mod for me just need to finde some one that could fab it for me out of my stock bumper.

Well really I want to fab it into my stock bumper at a body shop have them cut it out smooth it then repaint the area. Then install from japanparts.com super suction kit which gives you a bigger snorkle then I will have them make the hole the same size as the new snorkle that way it could suck in even more air then stock. Here is pic and part number is 3PSP21 price is 73,000 yen

I think it should work with box intakes like ARC and AEM. As for every thing else like open elim intakes it will be the same as the stock snorkle just able to collect more air.
But the water question is if a shop cut out the bumper and hood to meet the opening of the snorkle making the intake true ram air would it collect enough water from driving to damage the filter or go through it and damage the turbo/engine or would the couple of drop that do make it into the snorkle not be that affective to damage any thing.
Has any one seen or tried this setup?
