Hahaha, of course it wouldn't go that far since at 50/50 ur pretty much in the clear and moving already. U can even dump the clutch if u want.

Thought it was just common sense....sorry I didn't thought of that and made it clear.

This is a car site. It's an import site in particular. Assuming common sense is about as crazy as 90% throttle with 10% clutch.

Bwahahahahaha! Very true!

It's just so bad that common sense isn't so common anymore.

While in N, play with the clutch and figure out where the clutch starts to engage. When u see the tach needle move that's where the clutch engages. good luck

Man, I wish this thread was around when I first learned back in April. I don't drive my X every day, so I still have those rough shifts, but its much smoother than when I first got in the car

Question:

In order to prolong the clutch as long as possible..

do you guys fully press the clutch before shifting? with my short shifter and CMC and new clutch, I can barely tap on the clutch and shift into gear.. but does that prolong the clutch? or does fully depressing the clutch then shift prolongs it..

I don't race the Evo on the streets.. just trying to save some clutch money

^^^ 2nd that. I hear you dont need to press the clutch all the way down just past where it engages.

As long as ur not slipping and burning the clutch, it wont be worn up so much. Doesn't matter if u fully press the clutch pedal or just disengaging to the contact point is moot and nill. Clutch will be worn out either way, but slipping and burning due to racing will increase the wear and tear characteristics.

When ur engaging only to the contact point, the only thing ur saving is ur cmc from bursting...that is if u have the stock evo x cmc.

What about rev matching?

I clutch full in, rev, then release when single clutch down shifting.

LOL! SF is insane...a little steeper and it's almost as if the cars would tumble down the road.

Rev-matching the engine to the output of the transmission doesn't do as much for saving the clutch (and avoiding the loss of grip from a chirp) as rev-matching the input to the output. But the latter requires a double-clutch and I, at least, am not fast enough to do this without losing time. Add in how I have yet to find a good way to be consistent with my heel-and-toe (or side-of-foot/side-of-foot) in the Evo and I'm not hugely happy with my downshifts right now. When I need my concentration for other things, I often go all the way to no heel-and-toe with a feather-off on the clutch, trying to modulate the brakes as I re-engage, relying on the fact that the car is AWD to keep it from being upset.

In short: I really stink at downshifting this car.

This was my first Manual car also. My parents hadn't driven one for 30 years, so I learned by myself. It was really just high revving until you got used to the friction point. After 3 or so days it got a lot better. I'm pretty good with all the driving parts now. Use the E-brake method for hill; it's better to not roll back then to be lazy. Overall, it wasn't TOO hard to learn. Just get used to it. You probably have gotten used to it already though, lol.
