2 Issues paint & recaros

Hey guys,

Need some direction. I have a 08 Evo X. In the last week my right a pillar on the inner side near the window peeled all the way to the metal. I have made sure to keep my car clean and detailed for some time and a fresh coat of wax is usually on the car. I called the dealership and they said it isnt covered blah blah. Was wondering on what direction i should take. I feel like a card with under 50000 miles should have paint issues, and if it does it should be all the way down to metal.

Second, I have the stock recaros. both seats are pulling away at the top near the seat belt harness area. Both have staples visually pulling out. Any luck on getting these repaired.

Im not looking for free solutions just a solution for both. Im kind of irritated with the quality at 50000 miles. not to say there the best car built but damn shouldn't be doing this.

Ill attach photos a little later...and thanks in advance

Yeah. Anybody got any ideas on the staples? Permanent solutions etc.

What can I do to have Mitsubishi help with the paint. I don't think it should be showing metal

You need two things. A body shop will have no problem hitting that spot. Alternatively, Dr Colorchip or similar has spray paints in OEM colors that are great to work with and a perfect match. Find an upholstery shop and they'll have the right tools to fix your chairs.

Staples; Two of them have fallen out and been lost. LOL, one stabbed someone and they got mad too.

Paint; the paint thing bothers me more. Because its less then 50k and my paints peeling on the a-pillar of all place. WTF?

Did you ever have your windshield replaced?

I've never seen an issue with the paint there. It will have to be painted..

The seats are easy, since you don't have the staples anymore, you can take the grey plastic seat inserts out and sew the two strips of the seat fabric together so you don't need staples. This was always a problem with the '08s and you might have the seat fabric pulling off at the bottom/sides too if you look closely.. An upholstery shop would prolly do what I just explained.

I own a shop in the LA area that does all the work for a Mitsubishi dealer. And although I love my X; I'm sure we all see some of the short comings of Mitsubishi as of recently. One issue that I can attest to (most often around 2003 and not as common on Evolutions) is thin paint. Most car manufacturers build paint to about between 4.5 and 5.5 mills. Mitsubishi falls short of that as I commonly meter 3.5 mills. That poses a problem as the elements will take their toll on thinner paint much sooner than paint with an adequate amount of clear coat. Clear coat has ultraviolet screeners that protect the base coat (color and primer) from the sun like sun screen. Over time the sun will eat away at the base causing oxidation and or peeling. Not to fret as I commonly see Mitsubishi step up and aid in the re-paint of cars. The way to get it done is to call your local dealer and inform them about this being a problem on earlier vehicles as the dealer may not see records on your model year. The way I have interacted with them on this issue usually ends in the manufacturer picking up 50% of the tab. Let me know how this works out for you and if you need any further help I will gladly talk to my dealer on Monday to shed some more light on the paint issue.

Thanks man. Any direction would be great.

if im not clear. Evolutions have a 7 yr or 100000 mile warranty on corrosion. Shouldnt they be willing to stop it before it starts on my a pillar

I could tell this car got into an accident replaced the panel, painted it (cheaply), and then sold it as is to another owner. Sorry man can't blame Mitsu for this one.

For one, i dont know how you could tell this from a ****ty photo. My passenger door is open LOL. Im sure it could be the case. But in all the accidents i have been involved in with my legacy. i never once had to get my a pillar painted. So unless my car was really screwed up then and i didnt know it. Shame on me.

Second,

I found a receipt from my old dealer saying they would fix my seats and never did. Im going to bring it to my new dealer and see if they will honor it.

I spoke to my dealer and told them about your situation. They said that it should not be an issue to have Mitsubishi step up and take some of the responsibility. First you have to call Mitsubishi North America and tell them about your problem to get the ball rolling. Second, you will go to your nearest (best) dealership and have them contact the manufacturer with your case number. The dealer will take pictures and have their supporting body shop write a full estimate of repairs. Both the pictures and estimate will be sent to Mitsubishi and based on the cause/ warranty, Mitsubishi will assume a portion of the liability.
