After speaking to Michael @ ETS and with Chris @ MAP and also someone at Cobb it is the general oppinion if you have a 2011 or newer EVO you need a tune when installing an intake. As for the reasons I do not know. If I was you I would set my goals realistically with what i want my car to be. Also it is the general oppinion that if you are going to mod your car you will make more power staying with one company on your build. IE: using all ETS, AMS, Buschur parts. You will have less of a headache getting parts to fit correctly; pluss they will work and perform together.

People say this, but I've never heard a logic reason why. I mean, I can't see how ETS's intake and exhaust could provide some kind of magical "set bonus" to make the two of them together be better than two separately equal parts from different companies. Maybe it's vendors pushing the logic to try and sell more of their parts, maybe it's something people just came up with, IDK. The only exception I could see is Cobb parts going with Cobb OTS tunes. IMO a good exhaust is a good exhaust, a good intake is a good intake, etc.

Agreed. It's just a sales scheme.

The only reason I would go with one company is to have everything look the same have the same color scheme. If thats what you're into.

Good choice. Its funny how ETS uses a K&N filter in their kit but K&N does not use a ETS filter. I wonder who spent more time engineering

Lol

Almost all K&N filters are universal and just go by size...

And I don't know about their air filters, but their oil filters are made by some other company and rebranded...

Have the K&N + UICP on my car for almost a year now. Absolutely no issues at all and it sounds terrific under throttle.

I've had the K&N on my MR for about a year now w/o a tune and no other mods and have never had a problem. It's a pain in the *** for the MR because the mounting point is different than in the GSR and K&N doen't make a bracket for the MR yet but you should be just fine. K&N FTW.
