Only difference is that if you don't have a tune, your warranty will cover the repairs. Another reason to keep your car stock until warranty runs out OR you have the car paid off. One poster said it right, "You have to pay to play". This is the risk you take when modding the car and unfortunately too many people don't take the costs of major repairs into account when modding their cars.

Agreed.

Third option, accept the fact that you don't have a warranty.

yup that was my guess as well. Hopefully they checked for updated fuel relays or had the failsafe enabled. It would be really hard for the stock turbo to blow anything up immediately from power alone, so it had to have leaned out and detonated. I'd really look at the relays before Kaizen. It would have been good to check before the tune, but if the relay failed (As it's known to) at just the right time, well, it's curtains.

Alot of the things that go wrong aren't the tuners fault. They don't just wake up and forget how to tune randomly.

What I can blame a shop for is putting their tunes on cars that they haven't checked out is mechanically sound first. That's how you catch a body on your good name when it's not really your fault.

Tuners should treat every car like the guy is trying to set them up. at least that paranoia will have them checking over things before putting their workman ship on a persons vehicle.

OP, can you post a picture of the relay / fuse box under the hood? Would love to see what relay he DID have. I know my tuner won't tune without replacing that relay first. Perhaps this tuner did as well??

This. This goes for any business practice.

Not the worst advice I've heard. Never know when someone is bringing a car on the verge of exploding, a project that isn't recoverable, or something to just plain screw you. With consumers being so sue happy now days, probably best to fully analyze the situation if it isn't from a reputable entity.

after reading this thread I am kind of scared to get protuned my stage 2 cobb map is fine at 25psi for the time being, but I do intent to add more mods and get protuned with in the month

Darksun280 could you make a list of some mechanically sound things I can inspect or upgrade before I get protuned? I would like to upgrade these relays that are in question, id hate to be in the same position as OP after getting my car tuned, but then again I may take the trip to Cobb SoCal from nor cal

Everyone knows the basics. But this is what I've seen the most common.

Oil leaks or low oil
damaged hoses at FPR or WG
Boost leak test
Correct spark plug model and gaped correctly.
Anything that's installed by you or a friend should be looked at by other eyes once over.

Most tuners usually do safety pulls were they'll go through half the rpm range first make sure its safe to proceed then do a full pull. They'll instantly notice other wacky stuff that may be internal like excessive knock or a boost leak from the logs usually.

The X's have some internal weak links as well as the standard precautions. Even if KT and the owner did everything perfect, this can still occur. You have so many moving parts and only one needs to fail prematurely to have this happen. There are quite a few stock X's on this forum that had engine failure that wasn't from the fuel delivery or the timing chain. The best thing to do is have them assess the damage so they can find the source. Right now it's all just speculation.
