Unhappy My buddy's X is dead, sad face

So my buddy just got his 2010 X MR back from getting his parts installed and a tune (fmic, upper and lower intercooler piping, 3 port, intake, ams downpipe, hi flow cat, and cp-e exhaust), we decided to take it out for some fun. Did a couple pulls and then boom! Smoke came out of the hood, clunking noises and oil everywhere. Anyone know what could have happened besides the engine has blown or maybe it was the transmission (he is on an SST). Someone mentioned rods could have snapped? How much would something like this cost to repair? Any help would be appreciated! Going to be bring it to a shop soon for them to take a look but want to go in with some sort of idea. Thanks!

Have you even popped the hood to look for damage? How is anyone going to know, besides guessing, what went wrong without more information or pics?

This happened to my car too. Installed parts, got dyno tuned and boom detonation 3 days later. Let a very reputable street tuner look at my timing maps and they were jacked. I tried to ask the shop what they could do to help and they said nothing.

Sucks but all you can do to a shop is bad mouth them and hurt their rep in my situation.

Now if a rod let go then its just bad luck.

Could be the tune or rod.. Maybe the boost hit too high.. Did they tune correctly for the 3-port?

Either way he's gonna need a new engine..

Kaizen tuned it so we don't really believe they messed up since they have a great reputation.
I believe he's putting out 310 HP and around 310 TQ on a dyno dynamics.
I think he was in 2nd or 3rd gear, not sure...

A GT-R pulled over and told us besides how screwed we were it was probably the rods. Anyone know how much it cost to fix something like this?

i meant 'let go' as in bend/broke/thrown most likely due to exceeding it's intended load which is achieved by excessive engine torque OR excessive cylinder pressures.

Also oil everywhere in the engine bay and leaking on what seemed to be the passenger side near the wheel.

You got a bad tune.. sorry... no blaming Bush for this one...

This is why is so so so VERY important to only use reputable shops... 1 or 2 referrals... its not reputable.. hundreds is...

Its going to cost a pretty penny. Prolly 6 to 10K depending on parts and whats done... labor cost if your BIG big variable..

Good luck

Sounds like the block is trashed. Way too low of power for an engine to blow unless you weren't running the correct fuel, I'd definitely be talking to the shop who tuned it!

Gather all your facts.... How long after this tune did it break.. where was the last time he got gas? Have the gas checked to make sure first... or in the meantime.

Be nice at first and tell them look... you are responsible.. period.. worst case go to small claims court.

At a minimum, it's going to have some bent valves.

Where is the car now? I'd probably have it towed to them, explain exactly what happened (being HONEST here is key, don't tell them you were driving your grandmother to church, if you want honestly and respect in return then you must first give it), ask them to inspect it, and base further discussion on their findings and what, if anything, they're offering to help out with.
