2012/2013 Oil Change Interval
Something of a gratuitous statement, as laws vary great from state to state. Not sure that's correct as (though I need to confirm) that the warranty specifically stipulates that it is null and void if a non synthetic oil is used. I suggest, unless that requirement is clearly stated, we stay away from ambiguous claims of warranty coverage (or lack thereof).
and cbus just pointed it out.. Its clearly in ink.
topic has been beaten to death , the point is , if you want your warranty you have to be in the parameters mitsu gives you. If you are not then it gives them another excuse to not warranty the part that is defective.

So, I'm a little confused and concerned :P I have a 2013 ordered and arriving in April. Up until the 2012 MY, the oil change interval was 5k and it's now 3k. When this happened I see lots of threads of people arguing about using dyno vs synthetic oil. To make it clear, I use full synthetic in all my vehicles and that's what I'll be using but at 3k, I think it's a waste of money to be changing the oil. 5k sounds good to me. Why did the oil change interval get moved down if the oil isn't changing? Also, I'm the kind of person that likes to document the maintenance I perform - is Mitsu going to have an issue if for whatever I need warranty work with proof of the work I've done and it appears that I'm changing my oil late? Lastly, is there a way to prevent the car from reminding me to change the oil so early or change what the interval is? I'll have the nav unit so I'm hoping there's a setting I can change there.
Thanks guys! BTW, new to forums here.

plan on modding before your warranty is up and end up voiding the warranty
anyways. I wouldn't worry about it. Do it when you feel it should be done.
Why they changed it? I don't really know. I think it was more of a
"get more money out of you ploy". But I haven't really heard any reason.
To answer your question. I would change the oil at 3k per the manual. Now if you

Problem is the dealers are mis informed. Happened 2x in 4k,
The car is being delivered from the factory with conventional oil. Since dealer used regular oil. I emailed mma, guess what no surprise, they say SYNTHETIC ONLY. This pisses me off, dealers don't know anything. The excuse they have me was ridiculous. As far as the 3k interval that's IF your using conventional oils. The minute I could I got that garbage oil out. I suspect mitsubishi is thinking to use conventional oil for break in, why else would they use something that will cause catastrophic failure. Clogged oil lines, & all the other nasty problems from regular oil. I'm going to do 5k intervals with synthetic, I don't care what mitsu says since we all know they won't cover any problems.since the manual is not clear, notice it says 5 w 30. says zero about synthetic oils. ill go after them if it comes down to it. I'm not going to have a wrecked turbo because some doofus tells me to use regular oil. Might as well use regular gas while I'm at it. Idiots.

Ask your dealer to change your mileage interval. Since your getting an mr they may tell you to di it yourself but if they do it its on them. I had them change it on my gsr after talking to mitsubishi motors north america.
my uncle's porsche 911 turbo , SL55amg get their oil change at 10K the cars are 12 years old and running amazing.
Full syn oils can run over 10k except evo guys like us are super **** and change it 3-5k (if you track it, its good that you change it)
I just met a general manager of BP of ASIA on vacation thru my dad that sells castrol motor oil, and i had to ask him the big old question about oil change interval on turbo cars. he said 10k is fine for DD, but if you track it then 3-5k wont hurt. But he said full syn can last 10k guys.... engine technology and oil quality has improved so much we dont need 3k oil change .... (if you are so paranoid send your oil to a lab to get tested, from all the reports i've seen full syn has enough life for 10k-15k )

All this nonsense would be solved if people actually read that neat little paper book Mitsubishi includes called an OWNERS MANUAL! It specifies what kind of oil to use, and how often to change it. Mine (2010) clearly states 5W-30 synthetic oil changed every 5000 miles (normal) or 3750 miles (severe).
