2012/2013 Oil Change Interval
Kracka knows what he is talking about. I mean he has been driving his car at 400whp/tq for a while now and has more than 60k on the same motor pushing 150whp/tq more than stock for a long time.
Synthetic oil is a must for any turbo application. Especially if the car is seeing higher rpms.
above 5000rpms.
The oil is not only lubricating the engine and keeping it cool but also keeps the turbo cool.
Since the turbocharger produces temperatures in excess of 900c degrees it is essential for the oil to flow well and not to break down.
Non synthetic is more capable of breakdown thus a worse choice for a turbocharged vehicle especially.

My tuner recommended Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 for my 2012 Evo which has all the bolt-ons to keep it fun as a DD and an autoX toy.
I'm switching from the stealership Mobil 1 prices to a local drive-in shop, just bring your own oil (I live in Canada so Wal-Mart is the cheapest for Rotella T6), they get the OEM filter cheaper than I can, and I'm going to be a happier camper with more $ to justify changing oil every 5k kms.
I plan on using the 5W-40 all year round.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Went to the dealership today with my new 2014 Evo to get its first oil change. This dealer I completely trust with my car. Prestige Mitsubishi In Turnersville NJ. When i got the receipt i looked at it and it didnt say mobil 1. So I asked the dealer do they not use synthetic oil in the evo anymores. They told me " starting with the 2014 Evo they are using regular oil..2013 and below are synthetic oil...I was shocked. They told me u can use synthetic but they come standard with reg oil

Yeah they said the same thing to me when I went in for an oil change on my 2012 evo x... back in 2012 they told me all new 2012 evo x use conventional now..... so just drive 3000 miles and then switch it back to Full synthetic for the best protection for ur engine. ( nothing wrong with conventional tho u dont have to dump it out of ur car)

I went to that dealership before for service when I had my 2011 WRX, my car came back with a bunch of the intercooler fins bent. did not affect the car but i hated how it looked.
Anyway, did they tell you what the interval is if you go with the full synthetic??
There are several cars that come with conventional mineral oil from the factory, and recommend changing to a full synthetic, permanently, after the first oil change at 3 - 5k miles. The oil from the factory is break-in oil, to allow the metal surfaces making contact to burnish to each other. That's why there's all of those metal shavings in your oil when you change it for the first time in a new car.
I use Mobil 1 full synthetic because the owner's manual recommends it. I would never put conventional oil in my Evo. If I were to mod the car, then I would consider other oils.
I follow the "severe" maintenance schedule to be safe. Change oil every 3k miles. That's probably overly precautious.
The dealership can change the maintenance interval reminder in the multi information display if you want them to.
