Gas tank wont fill up to the top

I just installed a fuel pump myself.
Im guessing I touched something in the process.

filled up gas doing the normal, clipped to fill up to the top.
paid, then noticed the gas wasnt all the way full

Im guessing the pump is sensing the tank is full when it's actually not.

any advice on how to fix this issue?
Thanks

The gas pump handle senses full independently of the car's in-tank level. You probably did fill it but may have messed up the level sensor on the pump housing somehow so the car is displaying as it not being full.

You may need to pull the housing out again and make sure you didn't bend or break it somehow.

i thought the level sensor was the floater on the housing. that's what the other poster is suggesting was messed up

also if it's a UK manual, wouldn't the passenger side be our driver's side? (assuming you're in the US).

it sounds to me that the float is stuck inside the tank when you changed the fuel pump. I would take out the pump and have a look inside. You would have had to move this out the way to put the pump back in.

Thanks

There are two fuel level sensors. The one on the passenger side is easily accessible. The one on the drivers side is attached to the fuel bump bucket. Make sure the level sensor can move around freely and install it carefully so that it doesn't get stuck after everything is closed up

I started the car with and let the engine empty the line in my VIII. It shuts off in like 1 second.

I believe that one or more critical words are needed between "with" and "and" in the above, such as "the fuel-pump unplugged."

I always just put a rag over the top of the pump when I disconnect the lines.
