Downpipe isn't necessary with stock turbo.

I disagree, I believe dynos have proven that the factory DP is extremely restrictive and the aftermarket DPs increase HP and TQ pretty significantly. Thats 1 of the 4 reasons a TBE and tune open the Evos so much.

Just my 2 cents tho.

If this is going to become a serious discussion, please start citing sources. Thanks.

I read this...

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...zero-gain.html

Seems like they created a new DP that gives actual gains because of the O2 bung. But from my research the gains are minimal when not combined with an entire exhaust. Seems like it creates a faster spool but as far as actual gains...it doesn't justify the price. For a price tag of $470+S&H, on a stock turbo, you won't get the full benefits. That money can be used for a good tune.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ock-turbo.html

Here Kracka shows 9whp peak with a downpipe from MAP with other mods. $370+S&H.
Again this is also eliminating the O2 sensor. I don't like this for obvious reasons like the emissions complications every year for inspection, altering the factory ECU even more by shutting down O2 sensors thus killing the warranty even more and just being that much louder.

I'll upgrade if and when I upgrade the turbo. I'm not a dyno queen.

I guess for me the biggest benefit I seen was a buddy of mine was running an catback, test pipe and stage 1 on his cobb AP, he installed an AMS DP and switched to the stage 2 map and the gains were pretty noticeable.

But we didnt have a dyno so we couldnt really get a definitive answer on paper, but it felt quicker for sure.

Nice post by TellMe WRT providing evidence or citations.

In contrast, this post ...

... is a great example of changing two things at once (which is called "confounding" in the scientific-methods world), which is not useful. For all we know, FearDavid's buddy would have been better off with an OE downpipe and a Stage 2 map.

Doesnt Cobb not suggest running the stage 2 map unless you have the entire TBE?

If so, better to just run the DP without the stage 2 tune first and see the results before putting a stage 2 map on.

Sorry forgot to cite my source since this is such a serious discussion apparently. And I'll try and keep from citing any "confounding" mods so I dont get verbally reprimanded

Note to self: "self, don't forget to include KY (for some reason) when trying to explain how to collect good data."

mmmack I would stay with your AMS TBS those parts are all engineered to work together, they will make the most power and fit properly. Pluss remember you are still on stock turbo so the benefit are no where near the cost, labor, time and headaches of switching out to a different downpipe. Yeah you will see alittle more power with an open dump, but it will come at the expense of a lot more noise, heat under your car too. Now if and when you go to a bigger turbo then decide at that time if its something you want to do. You will not go wrong with ETS parts they are excellent and probably some of the best quality parts for the money. AMS stuff is top notch too.
