Like i said when i first got my evo i wanted the bov as one of my first mods. After installing my intake, i drove it and couldnt stop smiling every time i shifted. The intake makes a 100% difference. I suggest get an intake, see if its loud enough, if not go ahead and get a new bov. But i would bet money the stock one is loud enough for you

this is true also... intake makes the spool sound like you're in the engine bay hanging out will bring a smile to your face!

Im just wondering if I should buy a BOV because the OEM one tends to leak over time and/or can only hold so much boost? Atleast this is what I have been reading so far.

Has anyone had issues with leak in the OEM one? What does a tuner generally tune for with bolt-ons? In the future if I decide to go for my hp, I would have to change the bov at that time correct?

Should I ever change my BOV?
BOVs are made to operate to a certain PSI level (boost pressure). as an example, the stock BOV of the Evo X works very well to 25 PSI of boost. If you tune your car to run over 25 PSI (mostly when changing to a bigger turbo), the BOV will start to leak and consequently lose power. Then, you will need to change your BOV to an aftermarket one, and don’t forget, it has to be recirculated.

The only reason you need a BOV is when you run higher boost that the OEM one can't support. Don't vent to atmosphere as it just causes your engine to go super rich under those conditions. This can cause stalling and other problems.

lol but if you're going to tune ur car 99% of tuners will put you at about 25-26 psi on unleaded gas which is over stock boost. bolt-ons or not.. So if you plan on tuning your car, you do the math.

Thats exactly what I'm wondering. I ordered a 3port, TBE, FMIC, UICP, and intake. So when I get my tune, wouldn't the tuner probably tune for 25ish? So wouldn't you need to change the BOV?

Thats what I'm confused about. I dont mind keeping my OEM bov (or DV). But from what I have read, they are good unless you are going for boost levels about stock. The stock boost wont get higher then 21 right? And I figured a tuner would tune your for around 25. So it seems that you would need a different bov but others say to keep the OEM.

I believe stock boost will spike to 23psi and taper to 20-21psi.. but when you get tuned you'll be crushing that.. just my $.02 listen to your tuner before you take anything a toolbag w/ a bone stock evo on this forum tell you, to your grave!
