Threw my MR in reverse on the freeway

So I was getting off of the on-ramp into a traffic packed freeway. Moving at about 40 mph (slowing down from around 95) and I have no f***ing clue why, I took the transmission out of the manual mode and threw it into reverse. I didn't hear any grinding noises and I put it back into drive within the same 2 seconds but my engine rev-matched as if about to go into a lower gear. The car drives normal, no grinding noises and no issues, but I'm wondering if I possibly damaged something in the transmission? Or did I get lucky? Reverse also works fine...

Contrary to popular belief, the 'R' on the shift knob does not mean 'Race'.

I think you are ok. Pretty sure the computer recognized that you made a stupid move and said nuh uh to you. Had the computer really put it in reverse, your transmission would probably be on the highway.

You are fine - the car cannot go into reverse at those RPMs.

I remember a mythbusters about this. The tranny locks you out of reverse when its moving. Even with a manual car it will lock you out. Im sure youre fine, but id be scared as **** too.

I was wondering about that in my GSR since my cousin is use to driving a 6 speed and thought the evo was a 6 speed too but he caught himself before doing that.

Bingo. End of story. And no more "95 on an on-ramp" stories or you'll get a time out.
