ASC/4wd system/traction control/ sst transmition failed...fun
Hi,
I had encountered a very unnerving problem with my 2012 MR. I recently had my car service for some damages , everything looked good on it (damage was on the front passenger fender roof and windshield).
Yesterday it rained and i though nothing of it, but as i drove in the rain my traction control warning light pop up along with my ASC system fail light and 4wd system warning light. I was able to make it home but nothing looked out of place under the car, or in the engine bay. The ASC pump fluid was still above the min line too.
The next morning the warning light turn off except for the check engine light. I take the car to work, it drive fine until i hit a puddle (nothing too deep ,just about 3-4 inchs of standing water) on the passenger tires . This is when things hit the fan. My SST warning light pops up, I lose power to the wheels (engine still revs), there is a light burning smell. when I finally slow to a stop the car stalls out . I do a walk around and i can see anything wrong with it. I was able to get it started again but it doesn't seem to want to stay idling.
I got the car to a dealership, now all i can do is wait...
IMO I think the rain/water is getting into the wiring and is F*ing with something. what ever it getting into is messing with the sst and or the 4wd system.

3 to 4 inches of standing water is a lot. I believe the ECU and awd ecu is under the passenger side glove box. Good luck! Hopefully it's not messed up too bad or it's messed up so bad that you can get a new one.
I agree with the theory that it's something central, such as a short. While Mitsu likes to act as if all the separate systems have been melded into one, they really haven't. The SST has just about nothing in common with the AYC and ASC, so errors in all three at once points at a central cause.
Ok, I got some updates.
First off the dealership is claiming that the drop in K&N air filter ( i do have a K&N air filter but it is still on the original factory charge , has about 3000 miles on it) is the cause of the problem.
They claim that the oily charge used on the K&N air filter got on the Air sensor, and cause all the problems. They said they cleared all the error codes and that the car run just fine. The Dealership said that they call Mitsubishi and that this was a common thing for the K&N air filters
IMHO , I think this is a BS answer for a problem they can't figure out.
If water or something is getting in from the underside, My best way would be to take the car to a touchless carwash place with an under-carriage wash.
I will pick up my car tomorrow so I will keep you updated.

Wow.
While it is true that an over-oiled K&N can coat the hot wire for the MAF and cause some grief, the idea that this can lead to all of your issues is a new one to me.
If the problem is really fixed, then, fine, and I (at least) learned something. But we're definitely not closing this thread because my prediction is that you'll be back.

Hello again,
I have gotten the car back to day. They told me they just cleared to codes. They left the K&N air filter in and said nothing about warranty void or anything. So far it drives fine, no problems that I can tell yet.
The place in which I trust my car for a touch-less carwash was down for maintenance ( i like this place because they use light beam sensors to tell if you car is in place instead of have a bracket around your wheel ). I will try to get it "wet" or simulate the puddle thing some other way or just wait for the wash to be done.
Thank you for all your comments and inputs. I will keep you posted when i have some more news.

I think the stealership is just trying to get out of a warranty claim. They are known for using those tactics.
It's usually a good idea to ask the service manager what if the mod you are trying to do will void the warranty. If they say its good to go, get it in writing.
Some will even OK some mods if you let them get the parts mark up and do the install.

I have... Some dealers are picky and will say just adding a axle back will void warranty. Mine OKd a custom axle back. So it just depends on your dealership.
I have also heard of people getting aftermarket intakes approved. As long as they had the dealership installed it.
