HEY GUYS JUST RECENTLY PURCAHSED A EVO X GSR...BUT IT SEEMS TO BE REVING A LITTLE HIGH WHEN I BARELY PRESS THE GAS, IT REVS TO LIKE 3500rpm BY JUST TAPPING ON THE GAS...IS THIS NORMAL FOR THE EVO X's OR WHAT ???..ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED...

Well if he unmarried it, then it should be back to stock. Are there mods on the car? Maybe he removed mods and did something wrong? I wonder if it might have an upgraded fuel pump? Or injectors?

 

no mods on the car except for exhaust and CAI...stock fuel pump and injectors...i don't know wats wrong,something just doesn't feel right with it...

 

Well if you are just tapping the gas pedal and it is shooting up to high rpm's, then something is wrong. Find a good tuner shop local to you and get it checked out.

You bought it private party or at a dealership? It ran ok then?

 

Maybe the previous owner beat the living crap out of it and had a whole bunch of after market mods and turned it back to stock and sold it to the next lucky customer

 

sounds like you have rev hang.

 

I got it from a dealership....the owner said he never had the car tuned besides the ap..and that he never drove it hard or anything..he baby the car....it has low miles too so i dont know....and wat is rev hang???

When your giving it gas, does the RPM shoot up but the car feels like it isnt going anywhere? Clutch going out maybe?

 

rev hang goes something like this:
-idling at a light, you tap your gas (gently) and the rpm shoots up to like 3k and it's just hanging at 3k or coming down very slowly (3k is just an example, it can be whatever).

-it can also happen when you're driving. let's say you're cruising on the freeway doing 70mph in 5th gear. you let off the gas and instead of cutting fuel, the car will still shoot fuel in the engine. two ways of checking this. one is by looking at your mpg estimator. when you let off the gas, it should go all the way up to like 75mpg (whatever the top is) but instead it'll be stuck at 50mpg or 70mpg. two, if you have a a/f gauge and you let off throttle, it should read "---" instead it'll show something between 12-13 afr. the third method is by feel. not everybody is keen on this but i can def tell when my car is hanging the rev.

if it drives ok, then you're good. hesitation, sluggishness, bucking, are probably areas that you need to be concerned of.
