BOV are not really necessary dude... ETS intake and you're all good. BOV are (necessary) when you're pushing ~400+ WHP.

Try to kill the ricer in you.

I'm sure those weren't AMS' precise words...no, you don't NEED to upgrade your turbo before you upgrade your stock diverter valve. Do you NEED to upgrade your stock DV on the stock turbo? No.

Your stock "BOV" will usually be good for whatever modding you do until you upgrade your turbo.

You can run whatever BOV you like, if you want something different sounding than stock.

Get an Intake... it will make the stock BOV sound like an aftermarket one. It gets pretty loud!

My Evo came with the HKS SSQV IV and it was VTA, loud as eff. I put a recirc kit on it.....Still loud as eff. But this could be because I also have the injen intake system on there as well.

I had that BOV on my Mitsu Mirage when I put my custom turbo kit on and I used to love the sound(s) it made. I'm more of a fan of the turbo 'woosh' now though. I'd say some of the ricer in me has died, but not all....

Any BOV will work with stock tune (the odd person on the World Wide Web sometimes has issues but I don't know anyone personally that had issues from an aftermarket bov). If it's recirculated then you can spool faster (a slight bit) than VTA. A bov is a bov - sometimes it's built differently like a "pull type".

The cosmetics and sound are the biggest differences. Just make sure it's installed properly without leakage and you're good-2-go.

Or you could get an aftermarket air intake. I got a K&N air intake with a hard pipe and my blow off is loud now. Weird how that works.

I know EXACTLY what you mean lol. A good friend of mine has a modified 1.8T Jetta and it sounds absolutely amazing. Of course, I'd much rather prefer my Evo over a FWD Jetta, but the Jetta does sound incredible in so many ways lol.
