Hello im new here....Does anybody know why my evo x shifter wont slide over to manual mode or to the +/- it seems like its locked but it drives good not tranny issues at all what could it be the problem.

That's odd, should pop right over without much force. Paddle shifters work? I wonder if something is obstructing it, might need to lift up the console to check underneath.

 

Yeah the paddle shifters work fine it happen to me a couple times it did that but it went back to normal after couple hours but now it just stays there.

 

Never ran into an issue with the x. My last car, the electronic module that would take the trans from auto to tiptronic. It would only act up when cold. One of the hardest problems to diagnose, since it wasn't constant. It sounds like the shifter itself maybe bad. Good luck with getting it sorted out.

Silly thought, but maybe something dropped into that side slot that's blocking the shifter from moving over.
Have you tried passing a magnet over the slot?

Have kids?

 

I had an issue with mine where sometimes when I would move it over it wouldn't actually engage the manual mode or would sporadically flip between manual/auto the two. I took it to the stealership and they replaced the shifter mechanism under warranty, problem solved.

It sounds to me like you are having a different issue though, I've never heard of not being able to move the shifter over, mine pops right over. I'd suspect a mechanical blockage of some kind. I'd be taking it apart to have a look, could be a clip or tab that broke/fell off and got into the mechanism or something like that.

Was it working when you got the car, or did it just start happening suddenly?
