New to me Evo X SE! Introduction and some questions.

Hey guys! I just picked up a 2010 Evo X Special Edition with 35k miles the other day. For now it's stock except for a Perrin catback exhaust and ETS short ram. It's been a blast driving this thing around and I'm loving it so far! I haven't had time to go photograph my car and it's dirty as hell right now anyways, but I'll be sure to post some soon!

Anyways, here's a quick photo of the car. Let me know what you guys think!

First congrats on the SE, I have SE #311.

Normally you should not rev your engine that high under Zero load, and never if it's cold (or oil not hot). A few times is ok but don't make a habit of it, can be bad for engine.

The noise is clear, you need to put it up on a lift and have a mechanic check the source of the noise from under the car as well as listening in the engine bay. Could be nothing like exhaust vibration on something, but could be very serious like motor. Probably not the trans because it happens in park/neutral at 0 MPH.

Go to a mechanic asap and check it out, good luck

Thanks! Where do you find your number? Is it on the plaque on the passenger side?

I rarely rev the car like that when in idle and especially not when it's cold . It was only for the purpose of the video because the sound is pretty hard to hear when the car in gear.

I couldn't hear anything at all standing next to the engine bay, but the sound is pretty clear when I'm standing on the driver's side of the car. I'll be taking it to mitsu on Friday for some recalls and I'll see if they can help me out.

Quick question - Do mitsu mechanics care about stuff like intake and exhaust? I've never owned a Mitsubishi before so I have no idea. Also, when I called to make my appointment for the recall service, I asked the guy if the car was still under warranty and he says that it should be for another year. If the car is a 2010, wouldn't it be sold in 2009/2010 and expire in 2014/2015, not 2016?

Anyways thanks for the quick response!

Yes Mitsu will care about the mods. They are not the easiest to work with when it comes to warranty stuff. Also how can revving the car with no load hurt it? I mean it cuts at like 5500 which really isnt that high.

That sounds like an exhaust hanger/heat shield issue to me. I'm almost certain it a vibration due to the after market exhaust either way.

This is my thinking as well. If you cant get it on a lift, you can put the car on jack stands, give it a start, and look for the source of the noises.

They didnt? I thought the MR BBS's was part of the "special" in "Special Edition"

You are wrong. The 2011 base MR's are the same as the SE except they come with BBS rims.

Close! Whoever installed the exhaust cross threaded a bolt so there was an exhaust leak, and I'm guessing it rattled at higher RPMs as well. Fixed that up and it's sounding much better now! Thanks

Yep! That's exactly what I did
