Fair Price for a Downpipe Install? Or Full Turboback.

Hey what's up guys I was just curious what would be a fair price for a shop to install just an ETS O2 Dump Downpipe, or for a full turboback since I would assume it shouldn't be a big difference since the other 2 are pretty straight forward and I don't see it going past another labor hour.

Just asking cause I've never taken my car to a shop before so I'm not sure what would be considered fair or not. I've been doing all my other installs/maintenance but I've had the luxary of online courses during the summer, and actual go to the location school starts in 5 days. Since my Evo is my DD I can't really afford to have my car down for longer than 3 days (I know I SHOULD be able to do it in way less than that even accounting for PB Blast soak from what I seen on the like 4 downpipe install tutorials on this site), but assuming I **** something up, break a bolt or whatever I just don't want to risk it.

The shop I'm planning to bring it to is a reputable place ("The Shop" in CT), not some shady random garage.

Call and ask how much they would charge. Price depends on location and shop. I can have that done in my area for like $100 and a case of beer lol

Just handle the install yourself. It's honestly not as bad as people or the tutorials make it out to be. I tackled it in roughly 7 hours with a little assistance from a friend.

I paid 150 buxs for an ets downpipe install. But he said it was the first time he did an evo x and it was a bit more work then he thought.

DP installs aren't usually cheap, most shops I talked to before I had mine done recommended waiting and having it done with a turbo upgrade.

If I were you, I would use a generous amount of PB blaster before the install, whether you do it yourself or have a shop do it for you. It could literally save you hundreds.

Yeah I thought about just calling, but like I said I don't even know what would be right. If they said $500 I would've thought that would be the norm. $100 and a case of beer would definitely be awesome.. lol

7 hours would be fine, hell even if it took all weekend I'd be fine. Just need it back up by Monday. So it's definitely not out of the question just yet.

$150 I would also pay in a heartbeat.

To be honest for now atleast, I plan on going to full bolt-ons until I get another car. Sadly that won't be for a while. A LONG while... lol.

That's a really good call. I didn't even think about it like that. Thank you sir.

The X's are notorious for the bolts snapping the off in the turbo. I actually attempted the install myself and ran into 2 seized bolts. This was with 24hr pb blaster soaking on them too. I knew they were going to break so I let a shop handle it. 3 bolts total ended up breaking on them. Total install cost was 400 dollars and some change. Good luck!

Yes, definitely do it yourself if you have a buddy who can share that case of beer with you.

A downpipe is an easy install, but replacing the O2 housing is what causes the pain, because it's directly mounted to the turbo and it's waayyyy up there.

A suggestion was given to me by CBRD that you won't see full worthwhile gains from replacing your O2 housing until you upgrade your turbo (stock housing is fairly efficient, obviously not the best). So replacing O2 housing along with a turbo makes it SO much easier.

But good luck with whatever route you take, and definitely enjoy the beer!
