Evo X MR Power Off Delay

Hi all,

My buddy just got a 08 Evo X MR and it comes with some mods. We noticed that there is a ~3 seconds delay to shut down this evo after we turn the key to the lock wheel position. So, what happens is that: we turned the key to the lock wheel position, the car engine was still on, all electronic stuff were still functioning. After ~3 seconds, everything powers off.

We drove a lancer gts before and I own an Evo X Final Edition now. All we knew was that lancers and evos seem to shut down immediately after turning the key. However, we never experienced an MR before.

Can anyone please confirm whether this shutdown delay is how MRs are designed to do so? Otherwise, does it come with the previous owner's ECU tuning or something else?

Thank you!

Yes MRs shut off immediately.

He most likely has a hidden turbo timer installed somewhere. Check up under the steering wheel, behind the radio, in the steering column, etc. Some are pretty tiny, especially Blitz.

Sounds like he put a Turbo Timer on it, which some feel is really the way to go with a turbo car. I've read and have others say you should let your car idle for at least a minute before shutting off, and maybe idle longer if you've run the car hard. Has to do something with cooling the Turbo off rather than just shutting it off hot?

There could be a chance the previous owner tweaked some settings in ETACS Decoder. Theres all kinds of ETACS related things you can change and the shutoff delay is one of them.

Odd, my MR didn't do that. Wonder if they changed something.

** If it is factory, wonder if it is to protect the transmission

Just an update to my previous post:

In ETACS decoder the option is called "IG Off Delay Control" and can either be enabled or disabled. If enabled it'll delay the engine shutoff after turning the key by a second or two.

Both my 08 MR and now my 2010 SE take about 1 second to shut down after turning the key to the off position. I remember reading that this is programmed in to let the SST set itself up, but Google is failing me in coming up with that post.

Yea I remember seeing this too, I think there is actually a note about it in the manual. It happens the SST equipped models, iirc it gives the trans a second to go through a sort of shutdown/reset sequence so that it's ready to be started again. It should just be a second or two.

Interesting, I barely recall my MR doing that, but then again, that was 6 years ago...

My '14 MR also does this. No cause for concern.
