This is a super dumb and possibly unrelated to Evos question... but what level is your oil?
JDZNate's Abarth recently did this, would start randomly, end up being a protection against low oil.
You said your battery was over 6 years old, so you have at least a 2011? They changed the chain in 2011 that's supposed to be stronger (double linked) than the 08-10 version. Have you looked at this?
