Yellowish sludge under car

Any ideas what this could be? Car is at the shop right now for tires and inspection.

Do you have an oil catch can? That looks like what would be in that with the air and oil mixture. Is it oil? Did you touch / smell it?

I hope it's your catch can or someone else's car! Check your coolant overflow tank if you don't. If it's full of that sludge your oil and coolant have mixed and you've got serious problems.

Tech says it's coming from oil pan drain plug, they were the ones who changed oil a couple months ago so they just did another oil change for free. Apparently the plug got tightened incorrectly or over tightened but the threads are straight so we'll keep an eye on it. Car is still 100% stock at 47k miles.

Thanks for the informative following up! So I guess it's just caused by engine oil leakage?

If that is seriously coming from the oil drain plug, you got a lot more issues then just a leaky plug....

I think it's just synthetic oil on snow that melted. I didn't want to speak too soon, but the car seems 100% on a some good drives I've been on the past few days and fluids look normal. But wow, the shop even forgot to put the inspection sticker on.

That's an oil/water mix.

Oil landing in snow and melting the snow makes sense. I'm sure you're good to go.
