Excessive Oil loss. Where did it go?

SO I've noticed that my oil level gets really low really quick. No leaks anywhere. Coolant looks fine....no execessive exhaust smoke. I have no clue where its going. I know performance vehicles tend to burn oil a little more then average commuter car (especially one with a built 2.4) but it seems really fast.

I haven't done the greatest job tracking it but it seems like I'm having to put in 1-2 quarts every 300 miles. Keep in mind I don't drive the car hard. It MIGHT see 30PSI once in a blue moon.

Anyone experience anything like this. Keep in mind the oil catch can is bone dry except for a few drips of oil.

Any idea's? I'll probably bring it over to spec-ops for them to change the oil and go over it and see if they can figure it out.

Thats a boat load of oil! If it isnt hitting the ground you have to be burning it, so likely not rings if catch can is dry-- I would think it would be smoking up a storm if it was valve seals. Keep us posted and Good luck.

Yeah thats whats baffling. If it was smoking excessively or there was a crap ton of oil in the catch can it'd be explainable but its literally as if the oil is vanishing.

Have you checked your intercooler piping?

Do you have a catch can. Oil pan is not leaking?

I'm pretty sure that's the Devil's Cut, or maybe the Angel's Cut. Either way, good luck figuring out what it is. How does the coolant look?

Who built the motor? Did you get the head checked out. I have heard the buschur motors eat oil. And if you have bad valve guides/seals that could be the real problem.

I had this happen to me once but I was driving a MAT-V on deployment and it ended up being a cracked the head while driving it and the oil got into the fuel return line and started filling up the gas tank! Haha but again that wasn't my Evo! Best of luck and let us know what it was

If oil is getting by the valve stem seals and the motor is efficient then little to no smoke will appear. Only time you might get to see smoke is at full throttle and that could be masked if you have any fuel smoke.

If you have a working cat on the car you won't see blue smoke out the exhaust.

No oil in the coolant
Spec-Ops built it which is why they'll be getting the car back this weekend to go over it.
No cat.

I will hopefully have more info sometime tomorrow. May help someone in a similar situation. I'm sure if it was more serious then valve guides/seals I'd have more issues. So I'm feeling hopeful. LOL.

Longest time I've had the car running so far (3 weeks) incident free.

my 2.4lr burns a good bit, I get a bit of smoke out of the exhaust at WOT but not tons... just enough I can see it with no tint on my back window. But mine is due to excessive crankcase pressure. It's pushing the oil past the seals at wot, but the turbo is brand new and was doing it on the previous 2 as well, so I know it's not turbo related. I have 2 -10an fittings off the head going to a can, but I think the solution for mine will be using the balance shaft inspection hole to a can and breathing from the block as well as the head. I empty my can almost daily and about 3 table spoons of water comes out with a bit of grossness at the end from the e85. Never any oil. If it makes any difference, we both use a Precision turbo.

I change my oil every month and drive about 2500 miles a month. My car uses the 4.5 I put in and then an additional 2-3 quarts over the month (adding about half a quart a week give or take) I am leaking a TINY bit from the drain plug as I forgot the crush washer and I see a small bit on the garage floor, ALSO leaking a tiny bit from one bolt on the return line on the oil pan. I have the little rubber/metal washers for the bolts on the pan, some Hondabond, and a year's supply of crush washers coming today, so I'll update you in a week or two how much of my consumption was due to the small leaks, I assume it won't be much though.

All that being said, how's your pressure and pressure relief setup?

Catch can setup from SPec-Ops.

I think its -6 on the head. Maybe -8.

Cruising oil pressure is about 66-75 PSI. I'll check it out when wide open throttle on the way to Spec-Ops tomorrow and note here.

Not oil pressure, crankcase pressure. I have a 10.5:1 2.4 and it makes some SERIOUS crankcase pressure. I would use the balance shaft inspection hole to vent block too and not only head and see if problem goes away.

Most likely it is being burned at a steady rate and it isn't going to produce much smoke at all. Otherwise, I'd check the intercooler like was mentioned before.. I had a leaking seal on the intake side of the turbo on my old car, and it just filled the intercooler with several quarts of oil.
