**** if its the turbo I wonder if PTE can upgrade it to a 6266. ITs a BB center so I know those aren't typically rebuilable for a reasonable amount.

When they have it on the Dyno if the turbo is on its way out it should be pretty apparent.

Any updates, Hurrell? How's the car?

I was going through about a two quarts of oil in one 150m round trip on the highway and maybe 2 quarts per gas tank fill up with regular city driving and a little more if I decided to gank on the car but most times I drove the car I had my son with me so I drove the car like normal 90% of the time. This is the from the get on my built motor/head/new turbo...93 and e85

I left the car with Spec-Ops before thanksgiving and between their scheduling and the christmas holidays I haven't had the chance to pick it up yet. They had it ready a week or 2 before Christmas but I didn't want to divert christmas cash so I told them I'd pick it up when I came back from Holidays. Spent 2 weeks in Toronto visiting family and friends and the day after I came back had to fly out on business for a week. I'll be back in NC this coming Wednesday. I have a couch being delivered same day so as MUCH as I'd like to go get it after I land I probably won't be able to pick it up until Thursday or Friday when my wife is on her way out of town to visit a friend in Atlanta whose father just passed away.

TMI. I know. I'm in a sharing mood. :P

Good to know about your new couch, but did SpecOps find a cause for the oil loss?

Hurell,

Do you have specs on the PTW clearance and all the ring end gaps from the build? What forged pistons were used?

That info might be useful for a freind here in Atlanta planning a build.

thansk in advance !!

I can get that info (I think). I used Wiseco pistons this time.

Spec-Ops is going with the car being too cold theory. It was barely getting up to 150-160. They put an OEM thermostat back in it and its not back at 170 (barely 180). Turbo was good. Motor checked out afaik.

I'm willing to give the theory a shot. I'll report back after getting the car back. I hope they drove the car while they had it since its been over a month to verify.

Late update......dropped the car back off in June........still trying to determine where the oil is going. I saw a post on here a while ago regardign a PTE turbo eating oil with no evidence of if. Trying to find it now. Motor is fine, fix a bunch of oil leaks....car still has a appetite for oil.

Update.......
After around 3 months of tryin to figure it out leakdown percentage was cyl 1-9%, cyl 2-15%, Cyl 3-11%, Cyl 4-13%

They think its the rings.

I'm not convinced.

Not sure what I'm going to do at this point.

What is spec-ops going to do for you in this case? Seeing how it has been going on for a year and kept giving you a clean bill of health every time. Sorry to hear the bad news, but sounds like they may need to rebuild it with tighter clearances.

Doesn't sound like its going to be much but I haven't gone down there yet. I did reiterate that to one of the service advisors but it didn't sound like much.

I ask how much it would be to fix it right according to what they believe is wrong and he told me that he'd let me know. Essentially is a motor rebuild for the third time (across 2 cars). I was told I could drive it the way it is but amsoil it too expensive to keep topping up 2 quarts every 400-500 miles.

I'm a little in disbelief right now.

barely drove it....and when I did I drove like a little girl. And its been a problem since the jump. I still want to have the valves and valve guides checked out. I swear I read somewhere someone else had this problem as well and it ended up being that.

Might just wait until next year to do this.

Even if I wanted to sell the car at this point I'd have to let it go for next to nothing if i didnt fix it, and if I fix it there is hell no way I'm selling it to someone to enjoy all the pain and money I've spent to get to this point.

This^^ . If spec-ops did all the work and the issue started from day one. Then wouldn't they cover the repairs?

There was a guy named bbong that had the same issue as you. I think it was head related. Search for his name and you can find the thread.

Thanks for that.

To be fair they haven't said what they will do. I have asked how much it would be to fix it properly and I'm waiting for them to put an estimate together (I assume thats whats taking so long).

the week I got the car back I took it to a friend to do some electrical work and he noticed the problem. I thought it was just an oversight so I din't think much of it. I didnt drive the car often so it was hard to really figure out. I had a bunch of other little things that happened over the course of a year....bad alternator, bad alternator plug, leaking fuel line

When I noticed there was a problem I mention it to them maybe a few weeks later. They gave me some things to look for and I started to try and figure out if it was random or if there was a pattern. After I noticed the pattern I took it back to them and they thought they caught it so I took the car back home......after a week I noticed the problem was back.

Its hard for me to get down to Fayetteville from Raleigh this routine went on for a while then I thought it was fixed or had gotten better. Had a local shop take a look they thought it it was the mivec fitting....problem seemed ok.....maybe it was all in my head. Problem still existed.

Then I finally had time to leave the car with Spec-Ops for a while and told them I didnt want the car back until the problem was fixed. This required them trying to fix and then someone driving the car for 2 full gas tanks to see if it was fixed or better.

Here we are 3 months later.

I'm not a mechanic but I try to educate myself as much as possible. The reason I don't think its rings is because I'm sure for the oil I'm losing it would show up in the compression test they said they did. Plus for the oil I'm losing it surely be somewhere (catch can, IC piping, going out the tail pipe).

Bad leakdown results could still be the rings not sealing, I get that, but, if the compression test was fine and the leak down was not and there is already a documented issue (however rare) someone else has had with similar symptoms.........I dunno I just feel like for the oil I'm losing that it would make sense the issue is in the head. If its burning oil like that guys problem it would all make sense.

Rings to me don't make sense.

I swear if there was another car that was affordable to fix and had this much performance I would seriously consider ditching this money pit,
