I'm not convinced.

Not sure what I'm going to do at this point.
I thought i posted compression test. I'll scrounge it up.

This is an after thought, but sometimes to see if I was burning oil I would hold a white piece of paper up to the tail pipe and you can smug the droplets out and tell its oil even though you can't see the color in the air.

soot and stuff show up too but the oil was drippy.

Now that you mentioned it my side the garage is kinda black on the frame of the garage door. Just thought it was the angle of the exhaust and never thought much of it. My bumper doesn't have excessive soot/oil on it though. For that amount of oil I would expect some sort of residue

Yeah it could be there.
If you don't have a cat, you'll get some various black particulates that come out too and make your wall black? =)

Update:

Nothing new. Motor should be out next week. Hopefully. They;ve promised I will have the car back by 15th. Crossing fingers.

I have a co-worker that just bought a new Jag and is talking the most crap. I told him he needs to beat my wife's STi before being allowed to sit at the big boys table.

I've noticed lately people 2.4 LR motors have been reporting this. Im thinking it might have something to do with the fact that the pistons have a offset wrist pin which leaves a gap on both sides of the wrist pin in the oil control ring land. Although they provide "oil rail supports" to put at the bottom of the ring land I think there is a chance it might be flexing as the rpms go up and oil could be getting by the oil control rings. This would explain why compression and leak down are with in spec because the oil control rings are there to keep the oil out of the combustion chamber area and will not effect leak down or compression

I also have a 2.4 LR that i built myself and I go through about half a quart every few hundred miles depending on driving style. My turbo is brand new and I know its not burning oil and so are the valve stem seals and guides, I built the engine my self and know all the clearances and measurements and still somehow oil vanishes.

You know of other people having the same kind of oil loss? Have they posted here? Seemed like I was the only one.

They did have another customer with a 2.4 (not sure if it was LR) that had oil consumption issues (not as bad as mine but still pretty bad). He drag races quite a bit. They tried a few things on this motor and he doesn't burn oil anymore.

First I'm hearing of people with the same motor config possibly having this issue.

Interesting

Im just guessing that its a possibility as I've built several engines but the only ones I've had any kind of oil disappearing issue with was the 2.4 LR engines I ran in my car that have the pistons with oil rail supports. Im not burning as much oil as you but it still makes me wonder

What pistons are you running and whats the piston to wall clearance and ring gap?
