Trunk reservoir fluid drops. (Blinking Tarmac)
Trunk reservoir fluid drops. (Blinking Tarmac)
Hello,
I hope everyone is having a wonderful December and enjoying their holiday weekend partys.
I got my 2011 EVO GSR back in August. It came with 23919 miles on it.
Now, I've included the service records so far for it.
I've had my ACD pump go once while I've owned the car, and of course, it was free for putting in the new one. I also paid for The re-locator kit from driven fab
The dealer installed this into my car for me.
I should pref that before they replaced my pump, I've noticed that the indicator light that reads 'Tarmac', would blink. It wouldn't blink when I first start up the car. But as soon as I roll out of my parking spot it would start. Then it would just stop. So I contacted the dealership.
So I bring the car in and they found that the fluid in the reservoir would be right where the two halfs of plastic meet and get glued together. The tech-filled it up for me and sent me off on my way.
So lets fast forward after they installed the new pump and new RELOCATION kit. I've been noticing that the same symptoms keep happening. The Tarmac light will come on and blink and then stop. I just filled up the reservoir yesterday Dec 15, 2019, and I filled it a tad past 'MAX'.
So here's a picture of the reservoir and how much I have in there as in fluid right now. I'm sure during this week I'll get the blinking once again. The Tech at the shop actually gave me OEM fluid to fill the reservoir myself if it keeps happening.
I have him on my friend's list on Facebook. I wrote to him yesterday about the issue and told him we need to take a day to figure out what's going on. He asked if there're spills or leaks. I said there's absolutely nothing on the ground when I pull away. So, I don't know where this fluid is going and leaking from.
The tech hooked up his scanner and wanted to see if the new pump went, and there're no codes stating such. That's when he was cool enough to hand me the bottle to me, so I can fill the reservoir if need be.
Curious as to if anyone else is having problems like this, and If anyone had some info they will share that would be awesome.

If the tarmac light is blinking on you when your driving that is a failure of the ACD pump to provide pressure at that moment. If that happens for LONG enough then it flips a full failure code. When you combine that with your magic mystery missing fluid, you have an issue that needs to be tracked down and fixed. When the tech said there are NO CODES that seems odd since the light flashed. I had an ACD pump "almost fail" whereby it was flashing the tarmac which means it was intermittently loosing pressure. The dealer said that Mitsu won't replace the ACD until TOTAL FAILURE which was a different code than my intermittent pressure failure. I pitched a minor fit, and honestly this dealership is not like most - THEY ARE AWESOME and they put the paperwork through as a FULL FAILURE of the ACD pump and replaced it under warranty. Maybe some of this info helps ya.
Hey,
Thanks for writing back. I'm actually going to the dealer Thursday for an oil change, I leave for my 2-month layoff Friday or Saturday. But, I'll bring up the Tarmac light. Kevin knows all about it, I actually wrote to him through facebook. Maybe, I'll show him our write up to me about it.
But, I do find it weird, the second time they scanned the car, no codes popped. So, maybe there is a tiny pinhole somewhere?
If there's not a leak on the ground each and everyday where could this fluid go to?
I've had the ACD service message twice flash for me, one time was a legit failure. The second time I was getting out of work and it said something, and I hit my buddy up at the dealer, and he was rad enough to take me in ASAP, he scanned the car and found nothing, he filled the tank and sent me on my way.
So I don't know.. I told him that maybe this is the reason why the people or person that had it before off loaded it, cause they knew it was a TURD haha.

It sounds like you might have a blown high pressure seal on the hydraulic piston side of the ACD. Symptoms of a blown seal would be the lost of oil in the ACD reservoir and constantly having to top off although no leak is found externally, while internally the blown/leaking seal is causing the high pressure ACD oil to bypass/leak into the low/no pressure side of the transfer case. Mixing the ACD fluid and the T-case gear oil will eventually lead to a transfer case bearing failure so I wouldn't drive it too much if I were you until you get it sorted. Jacks can get you the seals as I don't think the dealer can actually get them.
Since, it's raining ice chips here in Connecticut, I went outside started the car to warm it up and such, and forgot to check the fluid. until the car was warm, it's sitting at the mid range as of now. Thanks for the quick response I'll run this past the tech thursday.
Is it Jacks Seals? What's the site? I'm unsure what to google, well what to go on as far as a name goes.
Thanks
Dave
