What is the best way to install a Walbro 450 fuel pump?
What is the best way to install a Walbro 450 fuel pump?
I’m hoping to get some feedback regarding a Walbro 450 pump install.
I had this pump installed in my car a few years ago and I think the pump failed. My car is being towed to a performance shop tomorrow, so I’m hoping to get some feedback about the best way to install this pump. The shop that installed it for me a few years ago is no longer in business. I'm not sure how it was installed.
Also, occasionally I would smell fuel venting into the cabin of the car. I always suspected it venting from the tank where the pump is. Could the way my pump is installed cause it to heat the fuel in the holding tank causing it to vent?
What’s the best practice for installing the Walbro 450, wiring, etc….?
My car is a 2010 Evo X with full bolt ons with stock turbo.
Any information you have will be appreciated.
Thanks!

To properly use a 450, you want good wiring and pump control. If you don’t need that pump, don’t even bother.
What’s interesting is I had the Walbro 255 in my car for six years. A few years ago I was doing some updates on my car so I asked the previous shop to install a new pump also. The old pump was fine but I wanted a new one since I was installing new injectors. They suggested the 450 so I had them install it. It turns out that was not the best advice. I wish they just installed a new 255 like I originally asked for.
Regardless what’s going on with my car, I’m getting rid of the Walbro 450 and going back to a 255 or something else.
Thanks!
