Overheating codes flashing on start up
Overheating codes flashing on start up
2011 ralliart, stock with 82k miles.
All at once this car has started flashing a ton of codes on start up. Sometimes it will start and immediately die. Others I can turn the key to the on position and it flashes “engine overheating stop safely”, “transmission overheating slow down”, “ASC system service required”, “4wd system service required”, “engine system service required”, “transmission service required”, along with the engine fans turning on.
I have replaced the etacs module and had it programmed at the Mitsu dealer, and the same problems returned that night. Im looking for advice on what to do next. When the codes are gone it runs and drives fine. But they returned within a few start ups. Thanks

Damn dude, that sounds like a real pain in the a$$! It def sounds like a ecu or etacs failure. Is the car stock, as far as the ecu goes? Have you tried pulling the fuse for the ecu in the under hood fuse panel? That will reset the ecu and possibly help. It sounds like its intermittent, so maybe go around and check for secure grounds. Maybe even look at the battery, alternator and junction box to see if there is any corrosion. The evo x uses a canbus network to communicate with all the control units. Everything runs on very low voltages, so any impedance or draw could disrupt that system and send it into insanity mode. I would start with pulling that fuse to see if anything different happens. Next id check connections and grounds. If you still dont get anywhere, youre gonna need to find a way to test the canbus system. You can use a tactrix openport 2.0 connector, in combination with some type of software that will let you analyze whats happening. When you tune on the stock ecu, one way is to use the openport and a program called ecuflash. During the flash sequence, when the software is burning a new tune to the oem ecu, the display will show a bunch of crazy messages, similar to the ones you are getting. Thats what leads me to believe you have a ecu or wiring problem. I hope this helps you in some way. Good luck, and post back with a fix when you figure it out. Im curious to know what happened.
