@razorlab
Yes the metal pulleys were already on order thanks.
All here is an update. Engine is out, clutch swapped out along with throw out bearing, and flywheel. Hopefully tomorrow I will have the engine back in, work has just been hectic. As of right now the transmission is mated back to the engine and on the hoist ready for re-installation. Here are some pictures.
@97 GSX 97 thats what everyone tells me lol. So far not bad.
Replacement engine is back in the car, now to button everything back up. biggest milestones so far are reconnect front and rear motor mounts. Re-attached transfer case. Hoping will be a breeze after that.
We got a runner boys and girls. I was going to upload a video but it no like my format. Hopefully next post will be a picture of her all back together.
@JimGVT Thank man I do appreciate it. It hasnt been easy but its getting there.
Here is the car getting close to being back together, Next milestone is to bleed brakes and clutch. Then cut down the blow off bypass hose. In case anyone wants to know I have to bleed the clutch and brakes due to the master cylinder being melted in the fire. I also attached a picture of the reinforcement bar before it was cleaned up and a recent picture of the Evo. I was able to even clean up the intercooler, now it just looks dirty vs toasted.
Heres another update, Brakes bled along with the clutch. However one thing I noticed was the battery was not charging. Two alternators later and banging head again wall, I finally figured it out. The answer is in the pictures, next is buttoning everything else back up, changing pads, re-installing rest of body pieces and then time for inspections. I appreciate everyone's support thus far.
broken alternator wires that delayed my inspection and drove me crazy. almost there
@splattj I think I am going to run with the black front mid being red and Black trunk to see how it looks. If I like it ill leave it like that but if not I will be painting the other pieces the rally red color.
So close, she is set for inspection on Tuesday. I have the grille but the mounting tabs and a small crack that I need to fix before adding it. Now to iron out a few things such as the 4wd system message being on (code U0431), but no noises or leaks. Also the AYC reservoir is filled to spec. If anyone has anything that I can check please let me know. As of right now ill be checking all fuses, other then that she drives fine so far. It got a little wet from the rain.
@splattj Thanks for the tip and the link, I wonder if its designated as the driver side so mine being left hand drive vehicle. It should be on the left hand right? I will dig more after I get my inspection done, Just dont want to mess with anything that will cause me to fail my inspection.
She passed inspection ladies and gents, she is now legally registered for the street. But the clutch I was given to review was flipping garbage (see pictures) lasted four freaking days. Was a blessing in disguise I guess, 3rd gear grinds a little too much for my liking. So tomorrow the transmission will be dropped off for a rebuild, I was going to attempt it myself but never done an import transmission and wanting to enjoy the car a little while I decided to take it to a shop. While I wait, does anyone have any suggestions on good clutches for these cars?
I'm using the ACT HDSS Clutch Kit with the Streetlite Flywheel in my current setup. Also am using the "Redline Cocktail" fluid mixture for the transmission (MTL & MT-90). No grinding in 3rd gear anymore.
I believe many Evo drivers use the ACT HDSS/Streetlite setup.
If you DO decide to stay with the OEM clutch, you might want to get the ACT Monoloc collar, looks like yours may have been damaged. https://www.maperformance.com/produc...-evo-x-884007p
I believe the ACT Clutch Kit has the Monoloc collar included in the box.
