Hi to my EVO lovers - have a question for you?
I am thinking of installing a MAPERFORMACE Oil catch can on my EVO X, but I have read that you can fail your SMOG test because of it. Has anyone had a SMOG test done in Texas and had any issues with the Oil Catch Can?
I live in CA, the strictest emissions state and I've passed numerous times with an oil catch can. The catch (pun intended) is that it must be plumbed in-line the OEM routing of the PCV system and not vented to atmosphere like the one you have pictured. I would still check TX's PCV emissions rules, but I doubt they are any different or stricter than CA's..
You could always temporarily replace the filter with a line back to the engine, so it's a closed system, then smog, then switch back to VTA, if necessary.
Using inspection shacks, only my driver door gets opened to plug in the OBD2 cable (some cant drive stick). If system is ready then youre going to pass. Tinted front glass, black taillights, uber loud exhaust might get some scrutiny.
I am in Frisco (Collin County) - which does require annual SMOG tests from what I read. I've gotten some responses that most technicians won't look under the hood. Let's see once my SMOG renewal comes up in Jan'23....
I've done only a few upgrades - such as replaced the upper intercooler pipe, cold air intake, short shifter.....so basics....that won't draw attention, but will give the Dodge Chargers in TX (plenty of them here) a run for their money
I actually moved from CA to TX in the past year.....it's such a difference....the 70mph speed limits just means people are driving at 90.....which I absolutely love. Chased a few Dodge Chargers doing 130......those are beasts for sure. Will check on details behind TX PCV emission rules....thanks man...
Just go to to the simplest shop with the least traffic. When I had blacked out taillights and florida-tint on my wife's car, they just tell me to come really late in the afternoon
