Engine bay too hot

so apparently my engine heat shield just “melted” on top of my HKS UICP leaving a very unsightly mark…. I’m not entirely sure on why this happened, as I’ve been running this setup for a couple years now without incident… so I guess I’m wondering is this indicative or anything? Also I’m wondering if anyone had any helpful suggestions on what I can do as far as “damage control”…. Should I sand that part of my pipe? If so, to what end? Or do I need to buy another one? …..Do I need another heat shield? Cause other than the “hole” it’s still holding on strong….

here are some pics, bay is dusty… been busy.

Looks like you are missing some fastener on the heatshield and it is "dangling" down, thus touching the hot pipe. I'd rather try to source the missing fastener.

It didn't randomly melt. Its been rubbing for a long time.

But I’m not missing a fastener… the shield is fastened at every hole… it’s hard to see in the picture but it’s fastened in with the black plastic screw thing.. Now There is some bending at the upper portion but I don’t see that being the main reason why this happened. If it was even remotely related, I would see melting in the bend area….

Ok so the reason is because it was rubbing on the pipe? So what you’re saying is that even if I got a new heat shield, it would still create another hole randomly….

but ok, I guess I’ll just get another pipe

It looks like you are missing the fastener in that hole that rubbed. There is a hole in the hood there?
