I would think stock block and pistons should be good for 450-500 hp.

Do you mean fuel system, head work, FMIC, etc?

Imagine a deck of cards, each card is a modification to your engine, now deal a couple hands. Each result will be different.

I will say that there have been a number of folks pushing 450-500 hp on stock internals, then again others have blown their motor at 400 hp.

So it has been done reliably with guys going well over a year pushing that kind of hp. It all comes down to how it's modded and tuned. If you want the engine to be absolutely bullet proof then yes, beef up the internals. However, IMO 450-500 seems a bit low for the kind of money you would be pouring into the car.

"Beefing up the internals" would include:

Sleeved cylinders
Forged pistons
Forged rods
High performance rod & main bearings
Head stud kit

All of which would set you back thousands of dollars. AMS charges almost $2,000 just for the sleeved block....that's with a core. Their stage 2 is around $5,000. Figure almost another $2,000 for the head. Then you have a bullet proof foundation...though nothing is really truely bullet proof.

My advice would be to go or at least contact a quality trusted shop (I believe ETS should be fairly local to you), tell them what you want to accomplish, how you will use your car (DD, autox, track, drag..) and what your budget is and they will lead you down the best path to get there.
