help with homelink mirror install
I ordered an auto dimming homelink rear view mirror and got it last night. Looking to put it on today. I understand most of the install, the only help I need is connecting the 2 power wires into the fuse box. I have a pic of the ends of the 2 power wires (red switch and yellow constant) that would be connected to the fuse box. Connecting the ground is easy lol. Any detailed help how to get them connected? Thanks
I dont have a diagram of the wiring to the fuse box but you could pull out your radio and tap into those wires. They are color coded so its pretty straight forward. You have it correct red is a switched 12v and yellow is a constant 12v source. Good luck!
don't wanna do it thru the radio.
I saw the threads on here of some ppl who installed them but didn't give much detail when tapping the wiires in. I guess the basics is the find the wire I want to tap, use one of those clamping things to tap the wire, then with the homelink wire add a connection to plug into it but I need visuals. Does it require unscrewing and popping off the plastic below the steering wheel?

which rear view mirror model did you get?
with there being a yellow wire for constant 12v, i'm guessing that means the homelink feature is always on. if so, i personally wouldn't wire it that way. i would wire both red and yellow to a switched power device.
break out the manual and pick a fuse you want to tap into.
radio
cig lighter
dome lights
use an 'Add-a-fuse' to make it easy:

that's common. you dont have to use the add-a-fuse, it just makes installs easy. you can wire tap if you like. in the end, you just need 1 fuse on each hot lead.
okay so you can use the add a fuse with the other 5amp fuses in the harness? So if I go to autozone or something and pick up 2 of those add a fuses, how exactly do i get those plastic ends of the red and yellow cable connected to the add a fuses? and with the fuse box under the dash how and where do they go? I mean I know the yellow constant and red switched. I'm gonna follow the instructions on the wires and what source to do but would agree seems like as a security measure the homelink yellow would be connected to an ignition on power source

you can use dual fuses in-line if you want to. it wont hurt, just if one blows you will have two locations to check.
it looks like both your mirror and the add-a-fuse in the picture have female butt connectors.
you will probably need to cut one side off, strip the wire, then crimp them together or if you want, you can buy matching male connectors to plug into the female butt connector and crimp those on to the wire.

I actually remember now I still have my hardwire harness for my radar detector that was on my old X. So now maybe here's the optimal set up I want. Connect the red and yellow wire from the homelink and the wire from the radar detector all together and add it to a switch igntion fuse...would that be possible to maybe splice all 3 wires together into one end wire that can be added to "add a fuse" and plugged into the fuse box of an ignition source? Is there any worries about amps or anything? Using a thing like this and have the 3 wires end together in one? Using something like those pink things pictured?
Gentex makes the mirrors But....There's two kits out there one by mito the other by gentex. The one above is the Mito and it follows the aftermarket wiring protocol yellow full time red switched power. But with these mirrors both connections can go to switched power if you want. The homelink retains memory with the power off. The mirrors only draw 350ma (1/3 amp) so piggybacking another circuit is ok too and a 5 amp fuse is overkill.
