HOW TO: Hard wire radar detector in Evo X

1. Doesn't matter what radar detector you purchase. This tutorial will guide you to hard wire any radar detector. So if you bought a Passport/Escort or Valentine 1, don't worry.

2. Things you'll need: Needle nose pliars, wire stripper, crimper, wratchet with 12mm socket, phillips screw driver, Blendmount BBE-2005 for Passport RD or BV1-2005 for Valentine RD, Ebay hard wire kit and about 20 mins of your free time.

3. I will also guide you in installing a Blend mount kit, so you can fasten your radar detector onto your rear view mirror. This way you don't need to use the ugly suction cups to attach to your windshield.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1: Unbox your Blend mount kit and loosen the allen key bolts with the supplied allen key. Do not take the bolts out, just loosen them. It will make it easier to adjust everything once completed. Fasten the mount onto the rear view mirror stem. Try doing this sitting in the passenger seat, as it will provide a lot more space for your hands. Once on the rear view stem, do not completely tighten down the allen bolts, just snug.

Step 2: At this time, install your radar detector onto the Blendmount. It will easily click into the Blend mount kit. Once this is done, position the radar to your liking and then tighten the allen key bolts. Try to position the radar as far back as possible on the rear view mirror stem. This way is will may it easier to adjust the mirror once completed.

Step 3: Remove the drivers side panel under the streering wheel. There are 2 phillips head screws on each side (very visable). The panel will be able to be pulled of once the screw are out. There are 4 plastic snaps holding onto the panel. This will just release with a little pulling of the panel towards you. Don't be shy, yank that sucker off.

Step 4: Take your Ebay radar detector hard wire kit out of the package. Start off by inserting the telephone wire like harness into the radar detector. Then hide the wire under the head liner where it meets the windshield with your fingers. You'll notice there is a lot of wiggle room under there. Feed it all the way until you reach the A -pillar. The A-pillar can be removed by just pulling it towards you. Feed the line down the inside of the A -pillar. At the bottom of the pillar, there is a space to feed the wire right down to the fuse box.

Step 5: After getting the wire near the fuse box, cut the end of the red wire and use the crimper to attach the Bussman fuse tap onto it. Insert a 10amp fuse to the Bussman tap. You'll see a fuse diagram on the panel you removed earlier. You will be hijacking the gauge fuse. Using the needle nose pliars, remove the 7.5amp fuse from the fuse box marked for the gauges, insert that 7.5 amp fuse on the Bussman tap (as it has a place for 2 fuses). Install the Bussman tap into the fuse box where the gauge fuse used to be.

Step 6: There is a large 12mm bolt in clear view. To give you an idea, it is approximately where the fuse box diagram was before you removed the panel. Using your wratchet, loosen the 12mm bolt and sneak the ground wire grommet under the 12mm bolt and tighten care fully.

Step 7: Reinstall the lower steering wheel panel, snap the A-pillar back in place, collect all of your tools, turn your key to the on position and see that all of your work turned out well as your radar detector is now fully functional.

Hope this helps guys!
