Mudflap options; new owner

All,
please excuse this questions when i am sure it has been addressed, but I just bought a GSR (no aero kit) and from reading the forum, it is clear I need mudflaps to keep the paint from getting destroyed, especially with the crappy roads we have here in Boston.

I really don't like the OEM flaps. Can someone let me know what other options there are? I know of Rally Armor, but just wanted to know if there was anything else out there?

Also, if you get the mudflaps does that take care of the paint chipping problem or should I also look into the 3M products in addition to the flaps?

thanks
Ian

I have both the Rally Armor flaps & clear bra on part of the back door and on the sideskirts near the rear wheel well. I just wanted to be extra safe The clear bra shouldn't cost you more than $150 for what I had done (I got a great deal at $120 including filling in some rock chips back there.

OEM mud flaps alone without the Aero kit sidesills are not enough. You will need the clear bra on the rear doors and sidesills. Ever since I put the clear bra on, I've had no issues.

I can't speak for the Rally Armor other than that they are overkill for stock wheel/tire widths. IMO, they look like ***.

thanks for the advice. Are the RA flaps wider than the OEM ones? It kind of looked that way in the pictures but I could not tell for sure.

This thread was on the first page. You need to start looking around before you make a thread, otherwise you're going to get flamed.

Yes they're wider, about 0.5"-1" wider. I've had both on my X & love the way the RA flaps look compared to the OEM ones, especially when comparing the rear flaps. Some people don't like the extra width, but they do a much better job protecting the paint than the OEM ones. I still got many rock chips w/those on, which I had installed by Mitsu the day I picked up my X.

I forgot to mention that the OEM mudflaps aren't much different from the RA mudflaps other than that the RAs are wider.

The OEMs also have this metal plate with 'LANCER Evolution' etched into them. Some people like them but the overall design is too 'trucker' for me. I removed the plates so that they look less conspicuous. I was kinda worried about the rivet holes showing but you can't really notice them.

This is the best pic I've got of them.
