Paint not matching 100%
Paint not matching 100%
So my evo is phantom black and everyone who has seen it seems to agree I got a very light batch of the color since my car looks more grey than anything. But anyway, the front bumper doesn't match, it is clearly darker than the rest of the car. We had the paint thickness tested to prove nothing was ever repainted and the frame checked confirming no damage was done.
The tech is pushing to get my car repainted under warranty but they have to get it approved by whoever the guy is in charge (forgot the title) but he didn't sound too confident about it.
Has anyone else ever reported this sort of issue? Anyone think my chances are good? I want to have the car repainted anyways because honestly the paint simply isn't dark enough and it gets a new rock chip every damn time I drive it seems.

Sounds like you aren't the original owner based on some of your comments. Such as you not being sure whether its been in an accident or not. Based on that I think its gonna be extremely hard to get them to warranty the paint.
Paint on production cars will always look slightly different between the plastic bumpers/trim pieces and the metal pieces simply because the paint bonds differently to the surfaces. With that being said is it only the front bumper that looks significantly different? Are you the first owner and if not did your paint measure test conclude it was not repainted? The phantom black is not a very dark black to begin with and I really think you may have a tough time getting mitsu to cover it. Also, most modern production cars have very thin/crappy water based paint that chips easily. You may just want to get the car repainted if it bothers you so much...

I'm second owner but yes when the third party measured the paint they concluded it was never repainted, I had all the body panels measures before buying, same with the frame check I had done, and compression test. The car was thoroughly tested and checked before I bought it since the car was in Portland down the street from Cobb.
That's normal. I thought the same thing when I got my Phantom Black. The dealer even advertised the car as Graphite Gray. It really is more of a dark gray color than black. I also thought the bumper had been resprayed at some point because it was darker than the rest of the body.
my 2011 pb bumpers matched perfect, but when i had the rear resprayed they could not get it right at all. they say its the pearl that makes it so difficult ldk i am not a painter. but if you'res is that off it sounds like a respray or a blend.

There's some variance from metal to plastic with the same paint codes in the way it flops, but the variance should be equal to the rear bumper as well. If they can't/won't warranty it, Nason makes a paint that matches really good and it's cheap.
If you bought the car brand new, it could still have been repaired, they get bumped around a lot and can have a repaint without being declared used, and if the entire bumper was repainted or replaced, it could have a slightly different flop to it (flop=shading in light/shadow).

I have an 08 and I got my car as they were bringing it down. It hasn't matched since 08. Bumpers are plastic. Search on here and this is has been discussed beforehand.
Oh and pretty sure your rear bumpers aren't matching too.

Yeah I just shot RyanCB's hood scoop with PB and the Nason formula was a perfect match, but shooting metalics is tricky. If you drop pressure or stop moving your metallics can fan out wrong
