Of course its a personal choice who you listen

Its not my gain or loss.

Then you should have ended your contribution to this thread with that post. Where you faulted was by telling others who did exactly what I asked that they're opinion was worth sh*t. You really need to figure out how to present yourself and think before you post.

NeedBoost! have you decided what you are going to do? I own an Evo X with a Eibach lowwering springs (i dont know the specs cause they were put on by the previous owner) and an '09 Sti with Racecomp Engineering Tarmac 2 Clubsports and a bunch of other suspension parts. The ride in the Evo is much more comfortable as a daily driver. It has less bounce over bumps on the highway and feels softer on my body while crusing.

This doesn't answer any of your questions but i am curious to know the outcome of your search. I have the same desire to get a more comfortable daily drive. As of now i prefer the Evo's ride much more than the Sti.

I'll break it down for you.

That is my question
This is where you turned the corner - not a good idea considering I wasn't asking for comparisons, I was asking for reviews from people in the same boat I'm in.

Terribly condescending.

It is a shame some people makes comments like yours. I have never approached anyone with bad attitude first. I am just not that person. And many who who willing to understand my english and help with that. They stick around a long time now. Even in the states
But many who speak perfect english are really arrogant when they find wrong or opinion is not inline with they own opinion.
And i can say all the time they pull a languages card.... lol

So nothing new here.

Rob
You're the one pulling the language card. Someone just made a comment that your english is not very strong and that you need to be careful how much you say if you're not trying to come across as a ***** - which you have in almost every one of your comments in this thread.

Yes all reviews/comps between the new STI and EVO say the same thing, EVO kills it in every category.

I am going to get the Robispec KW's (street) - probably in a month or two. Seen zero negative comments about them anywhere and seems to be the most consistent "go with these" choice by those kind enough to comment in this thread.

I'll put together a full review after enough time with the KW's so those of you who trust an extremely picky driver's opinion can have some good data to go off of.

**Important note - I've had the 2 front struts replaced on my X by Mits recently due to "internal failure". I noticed and reported a "pop" in the front-right strut before they put the H&Rs on so they didn't give me any grief at all about warranty, but someone else commented in this thread about the same problem so not sure if this is something to think about before putting springs on oem shocks/struts or if it's just a coincidence?

I think you will be happy with these.

That said, Robevo was not being elitist. Simply, alot of people post reviews on coilovers, springs and other equipment saying they are great or suck when they have limited experience or none with any other product, may or may not know how to do the install and setup correctly, and may have different thresholds for different issues. For example, someone may be obsessed with issues only concerning ride comfort and ignore effects on performance...some setups feel great because they back off rear spring rate and valving but make the car push like a pig.

Sorting through reviews of engine mods is easier because ther is objective measurement s to help..ie dyno numbers. Harder with suspension.

I think Rob was just trying to encourage those with a broader knowledge base to comment instead of getting a bunch of worthless comments like "x brand is awesome".

A guy with experience on Ohlins, Penskes, Konis, and a bunch of other stuff was setting up a 2G with sleeves on Koni Sports with RRE hats. He was also a decent driver, trophying a few times at Nationals in autocrossing. He was convinced that there was some cross-talk in the Konis because it skittered when the rebound (which is the only adjuster on a Koni Sport) was cranked up. He was planning to send the shocks to True Choice to get the compression backed off so it wouldn't skitter when near full stiff.

At some point during the discussion, a relative unknown with no serious seat-time said that the plots for Koni Sports not only showed no cross-talk at all, but also suggested that what was really happening was that the rears, at least, were packing down at full stiff. But because this "troll" didn't drive national events, he or she was ignored (for exactly that reason).

The driver with lots of experience sent his shocks off to True Choice who told him that backing off the high-speed compression was impossible without reducing low-speed, because the shocks are almost completely digressive. So the driver had the low-speed compression reduced. When he got the shocks back, his turn-in was gone and the shocks were useless.

He complained to True Choice and his complaining slowly turned into an actual conversation about the shocks, the springs, and how the car was being driven. It slowly emerged that the problem with the original set-up was quite simple: rather than there being any cross-talk or any issue with the compression damping, the real problem was that, when cranked up, the Konis had too much rebound damping for the springs being run.

ps. in case you haven't heard all the slang terms used by suspension people, the short-hand label for having too much rebound for the springs, which can cause skittering that a driver often misinterprets as too much compression damping, is "packing down"

i had to read it a few times. lol

But that isn't why I started this thread - there will always be someone with "more experience". If I wanted a tuner's opinion I would have just called Cobb and asked what they thought were the best coilovers. I wanted "real" people's input/suggestions/testimonials regardless of how much they know.

I would be happy with "Hydraulics Rule!" if there was thought out reasoning behind it.

Everyone thinks their opinion means more than someone else's and it's bs. That's what I meant by "elitist". Just because you think someone doesn't know more than someone else doesn't mean their input isn't valid.

The validity of an opinion (at least, in terms of how you seem to use the word "validity") is not all-or-none. It varies continuously from zero to one. If we are not to use the knowledge of the opinion-giver to determine the validity of his or her opinion, what are we supposed to use?

Some opinons are more valuable. Asking my grandmother to give you an review of my car and it's suspension would give you a good idea if grandmothers would be happy with my car...but doubt you want to drive her softly sprung Merc automatic and all if you are into performance cars. IT is an opinion....just not an educated one about performance cars or one that is helpful.

But why do you need coilovers if you're not going to track car? Occasional spirited runs?

Just adding my .02. I added the KW Variant 3 about a year ago and love them. I do a lot of spirited driving on back country roads and they are great. The can be a little rough on bad roads but no fillings have fallen out (yet).

***UPDATE***

I picked up some KW V3's on Friday because it was too good of a deal to pass on. I know I said I would get some Robi's but I also am a huuuge victim of jumping on good deals.

Anyway, had them installed by Mitsu and picked up the car Saturday. They didn't get it down to a height I wanted so I spent what seemed to be way too long adjusting yesterday until it was exactly where I wanted it. I must be crazy, but never having coilovers and being such a noob with them I assumed moving the adjustment ring up the coilover (compressing the spring) would lower the car more. I was wrong . I was so confused and was being so stubborn I had to look up videos with people making the adjustments before I would go the other way. Whatever. I'm an idiot.

Drove about 100 miles yesterday after the adjustments and I must say I couldn't be happier. I know the springs haven't "settled" yet and I have a lot more driving to do before I can really give a good review but here are some key points I noticed right off the bat.

I set the bump and rebound to factory specs before Mitsu put them on. I might make some adjustments to the rear bump as it is a bit harsh for my taste. I'll play with it and update once I find my personal sweet spot. But for factory settings, I'm very happy.

There is a lot more "bounce" than when I had the H&R's/OEM Struts on but I expected that. What I'm happy to see/feel is much less shock waves shooting through the cabin when hitting a bump/crack/pebble as opposed to my previous setup.

Handling. Holy ****. If you've ever driven in snow, what I can tell you is I feel like I moved from the Arctic and I'm driving on tarmac for the first time. The wheels stick to the ground in a way I've never experienced before.
I drove a bit "spirited" on the way home last night and the confidence I have at high speeds now is unparalleled.

I can't wait to get the bump/rebound set to my liking and put a few thousand miles on these things so I can write up an official review.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in with their opinions/recommendations. I still stand by my argument that everyone's opinion is valid in a thread that asked for everyone's opinion.

You need more rebound if you have too much bounce. Ajust a little at a time.
