Best Coilover for DD X?

Alright before a bunch of you elitists start shouting "search" or "google", save your breath. I've searched and found a few threads from a bunch of people who track their cars.

I am curious to hear from those of you who NEVER track your car and who have first hand experience of coilovers on an EVO X. Not an EVO IX, or Civic, or any other buddy's cousin's sister's twice removed uncle's car you never drove.

And no, I'm not the guy who is looking for the best bargain either. I love my car and plan on having it for years to come so I want to do everything right the first time (with the exception of my o2 housing (sig) which was purchased solely based on scheduling with Cobb here in socal ) and if it costs me extra $$ I am willing to pay to play.

I thought I'd be satisfied with springs, but the ride is too jarring and it's driving me nuts. I want a smooth ride. I've read about people with coilovers saying the ride feels "stock". That would be the best case scenario IMO. I want the smoothness of the stock suspension but the looks of a lowered vehicle. Clearly I don't expect the car to feel completely stock when it's not stock, but hopefully you get the picture.

Now that I've laid out the rules, LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU GOT.
Again, please just those of you who, like me, love your car, aren't afraid to spend money, and enjoy fresh, up to date threads about something that is definitely time sensitive. An "evox coilover" thread from 2009 isn't very relevant today if you catch my drift.

I would think it would be hard to find a coilover that rides better than stock struts and springs.

I don't have them, and I know what you are saying about needing first hand experience, but i believe Ohlins would match what you want. Although it would be overkill suspension-wise for just a DD and they are about $3500

I DD my 11 GSR and just started to track it as well. I chose to go with Swift Spec R's and Bilsteins off the MR. My car dropped 1.25in in the front and 1in in the rear, rides just a little stiffer than stock but handles way better. I know you're asking about coilovers but just a cheap suggestion. $250 springs, $400 struts, $400 installed is how much I spent

I heard the mr bilsteins (rebuilt) + KW V3's coilovers is a really nice setup for DD. I'm looking into getting a similar setup to yours and I also don't want too low of a drop.

Unfortunately I can't afford coilovers so I might just go with Swift Sport springs (I already have the bilsteins because MR ).

Stock , period.
There is no advantige over the stock with any other suspension for daily driving only. The stock is designed and build for this car to do a best possible job for public roads. End of story.

having just driven a stock MR, i was reminded of how nice the car is out of the box. i wouldn't bother with it if you don't have to

but if you do have to, i'd just seek out one of the $1000 coilovers like BC or Fortune Auto with the regular off the shelf spring rate (like 8k/6k). it's stiffer than aftermarket springs and most definitely more than stock suspension but it feels ok in a car that i've both ridden in a have driven. like i said, though, it won't be a forgiving as the stock suspension.

you have to realize that no matter how big-dollar you get on coilovers for the best shocks in the world, the SPRING RATES are always going to be stiff

look up stock rates in the sticky...
that's
Stock GSR ...................... 3.5 kg ........... 2.8 - 3.7 kg .......... 0.0" / 0.0" ................. OEM
Stock MR ........................ 3.5 kg**........ 2.9 - 3.8 kg .......... 0.0" / 0.0" ................. OEM

GTWorx and Swift I consider the best (and only) springs to consider, and they're already at ~5k rates

lowest spring rate I've seen on a coilover is 8k

it's going to be stiff no matter what

the most important is suspension stroke (GTWorx springs nails it, have great experiences with it in my build thread below) and good shocks - but again, you will always have stiff spring rates. some if not most people are just a bit tolerant and call it "firm" instead of stiff

First off - what is the current setup?

DD - Stock or Springs (no coil overs)

that is actually false information. You can have a better riding suspension and softer then stock, but you will be over $12K easy.
Like a good snow springs on a nice Reiger suspension... oh man. That is my dream(the Reigers).
But it is way too much money for DD without a real noticable gain for this guy , since he ask for drive it daily on public roads. Makes absolutely no sense to get anything beyond stock for him.
Rally suspensions are (higher end ones) can be much softer then stock, since they do need to be able to run insnowy conditions too. So they can be adjustable way below the stock softness all the way to the very stiff track set up. And anything between.
Cheapo suspensions will never even come close to the oem suspensions for DD. In fact i wouldnt get one of those from teh begin with. Simple Springs and the right set up will take you just as far.

Judging from his sig, I would say he's running H&R springs.

Assumption correct.
I slapped some H&R's on about a week after I got the car because I can't stand lifted cars - and let's be honest, the stock height of the X is higher than some SUVs/Crossovers.

I did mention I wasn't afraid to spend the money if it meant I would get what I'm looking for, but I do have realistic limits to what I'll spend on DD suspension.
Looking to stay under $2500-$3000 which I thought was as high as most decent sets go for - of course immediately eliminating the rolls royce setups.
