Rays TE37 or Rota?

Hi guys, can anyone help out with picking new rims for my MR X? I have been looking at Rays TE37 in black, but unfortunately I cannot afford them now. I have to wait at least 1 year. I came across Rota wheels P45R, they are nice knockoffs. Any feed back. I am only going to use these wheels as DD. your help is always appreciated.

Don't get black. if you must, get rotas

One more thing I think the TE knock offs are grids.

Put spacers on your oem bbs... Wait the year for the te37s... You won't regret it!

get rota grids used for like 600 like i did!!! 18 x 9.5 et 22!!! 90% of the time youre sitting in your car so you wont see the difference and for the 3500$$$ difference you can buy a t3 kit and now youll see the difference

I can't encourage buying knockoffs.

That being said, if you're not a fairly serious racer you'll notice no benefit in the higher quality wheels.

I bought the rota grids and have no regrets. They look great (i believe slightly more concave than the te37's as well. maybe cause the rotas are +20 instead of +22) and have held up great for about half a year now in the pot-hole ridden streets of Chicago.

As mentioned above, if you're not gonna race with the wheels then you will not notice a difference. What youre paying for with the Volks is the cost of forging over casting which allows them to be lighter while maintaining high strength, and the name brand. But doesnt mean the volk's are indestructible (and obviously neither are the Rota's). Hit a curb at high speed with either wheel and be prepared to say goodbye to that wheel. Replacing a volk wheel is gonna cost way more though, which is why i went with the rotas. im not a snob when it comes to brands and the Rota's are equally functional for my purposes of street driving. either way im sure you'll be happy with either purchase.

how about a compromise and buy gramlights?

other than it being a PITA to clean the brake dust of all those spokes, i kinda like my oem gsr wheels so im pretty happy. i think im going to do the spacers and just keep those.

I've had both. Get the Grids and save for the TE's when you have the money. I bought the Grids.....twice. Then finally had the money to get some limited edition SuperLaps.

They both look good. For some they would rather support the originators.

If you don't race beyond spending the money because you can I there is no benefit beyond supporting the innovator of the the wheel.

wait and get the legit TE37.

you dont have to be a 'racer' to get the full benefits of a lightweight forged wheel.

Well I thank you all the great points. This is a great forum. For now I'm going to go with Rota because of the overall cost. Next year or so I will sell the Rotas for some well deserved Rays.

Questions like this sound like would you rather have a Nissan Cube or GT-R? It is almost comical to mention TE-37's in the same breath as Rotas. And, I have nothing against Rotas. It is just that they are at complete opposite ends of the spectrum. If you have an MR. for goodness sake, keep those BBS wheels. They are forged, relatively light and look great to boot. Save up your shekels for when you can afford TE-37's.
