I was just out for some spirited driving right now and I have a hell of a time going into fourth. What's the deal? It just does not want to go in there when I'm shifting fast/hard. I've had the tranny looked at twice at the dealership and they found no problems. What's the deal?

I used to shift crazy hard just because I liked the feeling and as the clutch wore on it went away. Once I installed the ACT kit it was back on But then the tc went caput

On my Sti I shift super hard and notice some wheel spin in the back wheels, due to the dccd (auto) I think. Its sposed to be bad so don't do it often but if the race is on, time is an important factor...

Probably the syncro... It used to happen to me, especially if I shifted around or sometimes past red line...

How would you know if it was the syncro? I mean the dealership looked at it twice and they said there was nothing wrong... (of course). Would a short shifter help?

In theory, you should never have to shift the transmission of any car "fast" or "hard".

Start incorporating terms like "precise", "smooth", and "timing" into your shift vocabulary and you'll see benefits.

If your goal is to make yourself or your passengers think they are in the middle of an action movie, then, by all means, continue with the hard and fast.

there no "precise" "smooth" and "timing" in a ***** out 1/4 mile run. you just shift like you stole it.

Ohh I know those words! IMO I think that those three words should be part of every one that does track days and road races already. As for shifting, I smoothed out my shifts and actually found that i'm not killing my gear locks anymore. ;p

Ok, it's starting to get very frustrating. If I am at freeway speeds and try to upshift or downshift into 4th, the shifter makes a kind of grinding noise. I can "feel" the shifter going in rough and not smooth like gears 1,2,3 & 5. Like I said, the dealership has looked at it twice and said there was "nothing wrong with it". Would a short shifter fix this? Could it be the bushings wearing out? I have no idea why it's doing this. Any help out there?

All a short shifter does is change the length of your shift throw. It's unlikely any driveline problems would ever be related to the shifter. Dying/dead syncro seems most likely to me too FWIW.

I shift pretty hard almost every time unless i have too many older passengers., once you get used to, you can adjust it even better so it doesn't become that harmful in my opinion...

that happened to me only once on 5th gear one time when i was going fast i heard this griding sound.I thought i rode on my clutch but i guess its the 4&5th gear grind problem that was talked about hear alot.So far it never happened, if it did happen again i will definitely get the syncros fix rite away.

Should I tell the dealership to check the syncos? I still don't know a whole lot about cars. What do the syncros do?
