How hard do you guys shift?

I just installed ACT Clutch and the clutch really grabs. and i ralatively shift very hard and it feels like i put alot of strain on the transmission. I know it isn't good for the car but will the car able to handle the beating????

One thing I have noticed on my '05 MR is that when I shift fast and hard there's a very distinguishable "boom" feeling, or maybe better described as a loud *THUB* noise. The noise is normal, its just the sound of the tranny gears grabbing im assuming. Makes the car feel nice and rock solid. It does worry me though because it sounds/feels like it might be puting a lot of stress onto the tranny. In my 300zx I have nothing like this, if I shift really hard it is more "smooth" and gushy in between shifts even though i have a racing clutch. dunno if any of that makes sense :\

you need to watch how you shift. when I first put the cltch in, I used to shift hard and you could hear the rear diff moving.

My CRV makes that boom noise too....it's no Evo but I think it's the same thing. From what I can get from the car's response, it shocks the drivetrain. Is your situation just a sound or a sound and the car lurching after releasing the clutch in gear shifts?

its a boom sound just like the mitsubish mention on top. I am so used to shift really fast coming from RSX-S where the clutch and shifter is so light that it can be shift faster. But it didn't happen in my rsx just chirp but this awd and sticky tires seems to put the stress on the tranny.

yea, it definatly puts alot of stress on the tranny. You could cause damage to the rear half shafts as they are weaker than the old awd eclipse/talons, and various other components where the wheels cant decide to grab or spin...

Usually dont shift that hard, even when im getting on it a little. My car shifts like butter though, so all i need is light finger pressure for a reasonably quick shift...good enough for spirited driving anyway.

My friend shifted so hard in his cobra he ripped the shift knob off and punched his dash board which caused him to break his hand

lol. I read a magazine article a while back (MT or something) that said the shifter fell off their test 03 cobra as well....although I dont think the driver broke his hand.

Yeah I was noticing this the other day... I tend to bang all the gears, not too heavy, but by no mean softly either. My friend told me to ease up on the shift knob and I just looked at him puzzled. For me, to do it fast means to do it hard. I do have the underhood bushing and base bushings which stiffens it up nicely so that might be why I tend to shift hard. I really don't think it's bad for the car, it's meant to be shifted hard.

i get the same boom sound from my 05 gsr too. it doesn't happen unless i am really shifting hard. it hit so hard one time that my rear passenger felt it hit the underside of the car. needless to say i don't bang the gears that hard anymore.
