Choosing between SRT-4 and EVO

Hi, I am new to this forum (and glad to be here)!

Today I went down to my local Mitsubishi dealership looking to test drive an EVO8. I was allowed a test drive around a twisty road, and a long straight. The salesman was very nice about letting me "fool around."

The EVO handled great. It took off the line really well. I wasn't as impressed on the straight, however. The car felt good but not as good as what I tested later which was:

Later I decided just to take one more look around the car country and saw the Dodge dealership. I have heard alot about the SRT-4s and heard they are great for the money. I test drove an 04 Blue SRT-4 (I think it was 04, maybe 05) on the same roads as the EVO. Again, this guy let me fool around. He seemed just as interested.

The SRT-4 wheel hopped from start. The corning was fine, but not as good as the EVO. But when I got to the straight, it pulled harder and stronger than the EVO. I had alot of fun driving the SRT-4, and I liked the looks more than the EVO's.

I can't decide. The EVO cost more, launches better, and handles better. The SRT-4 looks better, pulls harder, and costs less. My main concern is that the SRT-4 is alot cheaper but still beats the EVO from a roll... I'm also sure that with some money I could improve where the SRT-4 needs improving (meaning mods) and make it alot faster than the stock EVO with the extra money it would cost to buy an EVO.

Your thoughts?

beats from a roll? thats a negative havent had it happen in numerous tries even with stage 2 and 3 SRT...bottom line if you can afford it plus the upkeep get the Evo, but since you talk more about like straight away speed geet the SRT...so my final thought is it boils down to the money, if its not an issue Evo all the WAY!!! well all the way anyways in my book...good luck with your choice.

I think this have been beaten to death. Stock EVO did not impress me either, straight line that is. A simply flash will cure this. If all you're looking for is straight line racing and on a budget then stick with the SRT4.

From what I've gather you're better off with the SRT4

I have both and i can tell you that the SRT4 is a great daily driver, picks up fast and is very fun to drive -the wheel hop, i love my Evo but no way do i want it as my daily driver to many miles , the evo is for friday and saturday nights. i have an 05 SRT4 and the blue one you drove had to be an 04 they stopped blue in 05. So it is a new 04 so you should be able to get a great price. I paid $22,004.00 out the door with the sunroof and the kicker livin loud stereo. Good luck

My thoughts....

You are on an forum with THOUSANDS of Evo owners; you know the answer you are going to get.

Ultimately it comes down to the one that you like the most. From your post it seems as though you have pretty much decided which one you want. Good luck with your final decision and purchase!

this is a joke. I know someone with a bone stock SRT-4, he's a good friend of mine. I have an '05 Evo MR and I pull on him in every gear. 30mph roll pulled on him. Trust me SRT-4 isnt even in the same bracket as the Evo.

"you get what you pay for" .... remember that.

One Qustion: What is your end goal(street car, street/drag, street/track,etc) and how much are you willing to spend to achieve this?

I just want basically stop light to stop light performance. I don't plan on drag racing, although track courses could be fun.

to me the EVO's handling felt just awesome, but the SRT's suprised me too. I just want a fun daily driver, maybe some fun on the side. I'd be willing to pay about 4-5k.
