I have a dream
like its been stated, and I agree. If it wasnt for the car being so new and people like me owning the car (19 with $280 car payment and 2k insurance for six more years) there would be a larger buying group. You dont see lancers at big car shows that win like you see hondas, etc. any body with enouph cash goes for evo rather then fixing up a usdm lan. untill the price drops and young people have extra cash to blow on some parts I dont think there will be a huge supply. thanks to rrm to sticking with the lan tho. I like there products.

When this board first popped up I came from the Mirage side and introduced it to RPW. RPW has had years upon years of modifying experience on Mitsu 4G9X series engines beyond any other company that I know of. When they were trying to sell us parts they got a whole bunch of negative feedback from the newly formed RRM following.
RPW has hung in there though for what reason I have no idea.
Then comes along another little known company by the name of RIPP which happens to try to develop a supercharger which will be in direct competition to the RRM turbo kits already being widely sold. Low and behold the RRM following hounds the RIPP efforts clean off the board. Even when the supercharger kit for the Lancer was finally introduced RIPP had to open their own forum to post feedback without the substantial turbo naysayers coming into their posts and ruining any useful info that could be provided to sell such a product.
But let me back track. BUSCHUR probably the first to actually sell products for the lancer somehow got lost in the RRM buzz. We need not remind everyone of the Import Tuner Buschur article where the Lancer was first intoduced to the tuner market. There was another blue Lancer in that magazine that had been modified by another tuner whose name slips me at this time but even they have moved on. Buschur pressed on for a few years as we know until the fateful incident with the pistons as Alchemist has already said. That was their last straw when they made a product specifically requested by the board that went almost completely unsupported. I partly blame buschur though. They were unwilling to engage in any kind of business war with RRM. I suppose that's a useless task anyway.
Add to this all of the Lancer owners who gave up the struggle and simply bought performance out the box with the Evo or simply moved onto something else and you see why it's so difficult to get anything made. Any Newbie that comes on the board can only seem to find RRM posts in all kinds of threads but to find the other companies they'd have to do some real digging.
I guess when I read this it all really boils down to us the consumers. If we were more selective on what we bought and from whom then I am sure things would have better. Simply following one easy path has gotten us in trouble. "If so and so doesn't make something then that part isn't necessary for performance" has left us exactly where we are today.
If anyone disagrees with me they are free to. Much of what I have said is factual and the rest is my opinion. Read through old threads and you will see for yourself.

we are our own downfall into the "mustang 2" area
i like the debate, but id rather hear suggestions on how we could promote our car to other companies, and establish ourselves in the aftermarket area, establish ourselves as more than one way track, a community that is here to mix and match parts, not just buy all our stuff from one company 'cause its convenient

The big names like HKS, Greddy, etc. need to sell huge amounts of a product to make money, they can't survive by selling 200 exhausts or 100 intakes a year, which realistically is the kind of numbers the lancer community would produce. You've come on here and done nothing but bad mouth the very companies that have kept us going. In all likeliness in a months time you'll be turning to one of them to get you some parts, unless you're happy with your greddy exhaust and Injen intake, cause thats about as far as you'll get with the engine without RRM or RPW. Your worse than GreenPsycho, at least he actually had some experience with these companies before he got his panties in a bunch.
Guys like Alchemist have led the way with the Lancer community by not accepting what only is made for us, but inventing up new ways of modification. There are only a few DIY guys out there. If it wasn't for them we'd still be stuck in the "what is the best intake and exhaust for my car? " days.

and that is why RRM has its "stranglehold," sorry to put it like that, on the lancer community, because im pretty sure there are different aftermarket companies looking at us, but we are showing sucha strong following to RRM that to them it seems pointless
I agree we shouldn't simply spend money because something is there, but I also find it to be a little immature to bad mouth the companies that are actually trying to do things for us. Unfortunately you can't please everyone, remember when everyone wanted high compression pistons?

I'd also like to place a little blame on some of the other EVOM vendors. I begged a few companies and one company in particular to make me up what I needed for my own goals. I did this for over 2yrs. I had money set aside specifically for this venture and even offered to foot some of the R&D costs but I hadn't been able to get any takers.
I've given up on anything EVOm and new when it comes to the Lancer. Nothing makes me more angry than someone telling me my money and my car are not good enough to be worth the time to modify.

By the way the only way things are ever going to change is to have meaningful discussions about it. If someone like t3lancer doesn't have the gusto to ask for exactly what he wants then things will remain as they are.

right on wadadlig and kid lancer 7
i personally have no quams with RRM (except for those damn brake lines) ive bought stuff from them, id just like to see some more established companies (not just with the lancer) come into our arena, i know there are a few, but wouldnt it be nice to have more? or are you happy with what we got?
