misfire flame!!!!!

Okay gents, i have a question for you genius' out there, well i got my evo IX, love it, i bought a injen intake system, installed it, and just got my megan TBE, got it installed, but!!!! when the installers tried to take out my O2 from the stock cat, it was seized, it looks like there was no anti-lock on it, so i'm running my car wihtout a secondary O2 right now until mitsubishi sends the new one in, which is PRICEY!!! anyways, i couldn't help but push my car right now and see what it's like, it's GREAT, i love it, i already feel a power gain, a lot smoother through the gears, i'm waiting for one more part, but will be shipping out my ecu very very soon to Al to flash it for me, well anyways my question is this. I've noticed with this exhaust that it's backfiring a lot, i've noticed that with N1 style exhausts, they have gurgling sound, and a lil pop pop, but sometimes it's a loud pop. I was curious if my car was shooting flames, well tonight my friend and i were just cruising on the freeway and just punched it, i started in 4th, took it to redline, shifted to 5th, and then it was going up and the POP!!!!! i just let off the gas, and i was scared ****less, i thought i blew my motor, nope perfectly fine, but my friend said a HUGE azz fireball shot out. I know i shouldn't be pushing the car, but anyways my question is, is it just misfiring or whatever you call it, cause i don't have it tuned, and the mapping is all messed up? did anyone else experience this? some input, i saw someone else had kinda the same issue, but he said it was hesitating, mine didn't hesitate, it just popped and i didnt' push it after that. warrtalon be gentle, hahahahaha.

our cars run rich from the factory which cause this to happen on every shift near redline...i would get it anytime after 5k cause i ahve a cutout...it gets annoying...i just got a flash from dynoflash.com and he fixed the air/fuel ratio so the car runs better and it no longer does it...i also am making much more top end power and the car is much better to drive in every way

cheers

So what happened to your O2 Sensor? They Fudged it up? All i did with mine was spray a crap load of WD40 on there and let it sit for a bit, then I went back to getting it out...It took a while and a crap load of Energy, but I got it out fine...Nothing broke or stripped.

So you don't have an O2 sensor in there? You have a hole in your exhaust?

That will introduce fresh air into your exhaust and can cause it to ignite easier once the piping gets hot enough.

Your mods will make the car run rich either way, and fuel in the exhaust will ignite once you get the piping hot enough. Not that big of a deal, but you probably don't want any authorities to see it.

HAHAHA, yes i don't want the authorities seeing that, hahahahaha, i'd be like ummmmm, uhhhh, sir?????? yeah, FINE ARREST ME!!!! I"M AN EVO ARSONIST!!! hahaha, naw i don't have a hole, i plugged it up, so no fresh air is going in there, but that does make sense, the pipe probably was pretty hot, and fuels did ignite from it, but my question is, will this continue to be a problem? is it cause it's running rich? so if i get a flash, it shouldn't happen anymore? cause i'm not trying to light the car behind me on fire, hahahaha.

Right...a good tune should lean things out and put an end to all that, so just make the most of it until you get a tune...take some pictures, shoot some video...amaze your friends.

This should go away with a good tune. Let me guess you are running with no cat.

yep, i have the test pipe, now the small popping noise isn't a problem, it's fine, a lil gurgle gurgle pop pop, it was the loud azz POP BANG!!! and a fire ball that was the problem, that was like AHHHHHHHHHH, so hopefully like everyone says, a good tune will solve it.
