Question Question?

Has anyone else every experienced this:
Start up your Evo, get on the road and you check your temp. and it's a little over the cold mark and when you punch it your boost want to not hold and go through the roof? Does this happen because the car isn't fully warmed up yet? Has anyone else experienced this?

That happened to me last night and I thought great, my EGR hose came off again so I pulled over to check and it didn't. so I get back on the road and 5 minutes later I punch it and my boost holds at 21. It seems like the Evo is tempremental and you have to drive it around for 15 minutes before you can get on it.

Boosting before the engine is warm should not cause you to randomly overboost. That is a very strange phenomenon. If anything, you should see less boost and much less power, since the coolant temps aren't high enough to get any good timing yet.

Maybe my car has an attitude. Or I have a boost leak that acts up when it wants too. I don't know it's weird, It seems like when she's cold she just wants to go crazy w/boost. good thing I watch my gauge. I think i'm gonna have Atlantic look at it next week when I drop her off for her new parts.

Regardless, you shouldn't be boosting until the car is warm, and the car should be up to operating temps after about 5mins of low rpm driving.

10psi here as well when my car's cold. Maybe your WGA is sticking when cold, and loosens itself up when the car has warmed up? I dunno, just throwing stuff out there.

Warr, answered the question right there ^^^^^

When the car hasn't warmed up it will not boost up where you want it.

I am not a mechanic but please don't try and push your car hard before it warms up. Only bad things will happen if you don't let it warm up.

It wasn't intentional, I thought that after 5 minutes she was good but then she told me she wasn't. I think my Evo is mad at me!

shouldnt hit boost until the car is fully warmed up....if you waste ur money on a turbo timer, then floor it as soon as u start ur car...defeats the purpose of wanting to protect ur motor...

The point here isn't the "moral" dilema of boosting before you shouldn't, the point is that his car overboosts when cold which could be dangerous. Good thing he kept an eye on his guage though, or else this thread would have read "my engine blew today." I say have someone look at it, or maybe check out your wga and all lines.
