I've seen several 11 second Evo's running the stock airbox, so I don't think that they were being restricted.

I have the APS. I bought it a long time ago for dirt cheap so why not ditch the stocker for it? Both TT and Dynoflash had great things to say about this intake. And it sucks air from the fender well unlike the HKS. The air flow is also more laminar than a short ram intake such as the HKS or BR, so the MAF doesnt get thrown off from the turbulent flow and make th car sputter and/or stall.

i also know people who dynoed the rs and lost power a lot of it has to do with the tune and mods. also the the k&n could gain 14hp over stock from a tune because we all know there is power left on the table with the stock tune. doesnt mean the gain was from the intake that was put on but they can claim it.

i say just use the adapter cone filter and stock pipe.

Question: Does the APS fit EVO's with ACD? I don't think it will.. the ACD pump is right where the filter goes.

While we're on the subject, I am curious, does an aftermarket open element air intake cause you to hear the recirculation valve on the EVO as you would an aftermarket BOV? I noticed when I got around to placing intakes on both of my WRX's, you'd swear they were running atmospheric blow off valves..

yes, you will hear the stocker with an open element filter pretty obviously. Not super loud, but very noticable.

I'm the same way

stock airbox with aftermarket filter is good up to 400WHP.
cone filter w/MAF removed is REQUIRED from 400WHP up.

K&N drop in filter is not that good? Which drop in filter is better than K&N and is not reusable? I thought K&N was the best drop in filter ... that sucks. I paid for it already. Anybody knows a better drop in filter?

I didn't say it was no good . Where did you get that? It's probably good for a few horsepower and it's reusuable. I like my K & N drop in .
