I guess its all relative. Before I had my evo 0-60 in 5.9 may have been fast.
Now 0-60 in 4.6 > 5.9
I had an RX-8 with the Sport Package for 2.5 years. A few months ago I traded it in on my new Evo IX. My thoughts, and why I traded:
Compared to the Evo, the RX-8 has a much smoother ride and the interior is a lot more sophicated. It handles extremely well and has rear-wheel drive for that nice tossability. I had it out on the track at Laguna Seca and drove it all day as fast as I wanted without ever really exceeding its limits or overheating the brakes or engine. (Check out the Top Gear video some time and see how the car handles so well, and is so well-balaced, that it can match the lap times of the much torquier E46 M3.)
The RX-8 is a world-class car with many cool features: Not just the rotary engine but other things like a carbon-fiber drive shaft; alloy control arms; huge brakes --ventilated front and back; dual oil coolers; titanium mixed into the roof alloy (it's true, just not well known); digital speedometer; stubby shifter; six speeds; diversity antenna; tire pressure sensors; variable redline (6,000 when cold; 9,000 when warm); redline beeper; electronic throttle and steering assist; Controller Area Network system; front, side and side curtain airbags; ABS; DSC; TC; LSD; EBD and many other neat little features. Plus, in a crash it's a great place to be.
But ... you knew there was a but, right? ... the RX-8 was a little on the boring side to me. You can't make it really scoot without winding out the engine, and when you do that on public streets you're almost always jeopardizing your driver's license. Likewise, the car won't slide in a turn unless you're really rocking it. It's so darn smooth you never feel like you're going very fast, even if you're going 100 MPH. The engine and exhaust note are very quiet, too.
Also, the interior is a bit cave-like and dark, and it's a pain letting kids in and out of the back seats. The rear visibility kind of sucks with those massive C pillars.
So I got the Evo instead. It's much more crude and raw and rough-riding, but it's more fun and I like the more open, taller interior and windows better. (I also love its looks, but I loved the RX-8, too.)
The RX-8 is more of a classy, long-distance bomber, a great GT like the Porsche Carrera. The Evo is more of a suicide bomber. You pays your money and takes your choice.

evo or rx-8...it's a tough decision huh>? well, imagine urself in the rx-8 and ur waiting for the green light to pop,so u can hammer the throttle to show the chick sitting beside how "fast" is ur ride, and for ur bad luck, an evo addict just got a ticket and he's angry and want to expell his anger and u came in his way...did u feel me> ur heart will get this burning sensation etc...but don't forget> in the end it's all about objective and perspective, it's what u want to feel..is it indulging pleasure or sheer performance,ur call.
Put some boost into your RX8. That would equal more fun. Greddy Turbo Kit + Interceptor-X EMS and a good tune gets you 300RWHP at 5PSI.
Here is where I got that info:

That might help you out a bit if you are at a stoplight with an evo, but even so, watch out for the IX's.
A 20B AWD would be nice.
