Most courts will allow you to put off your court date for about another month. Just go to the courthouse and ask em about it and they'll set it up for you. That will make it harder for the cop to be there. I had a disorderly conduct ticket (for drifting even though they didnt see us or have any witnesses! *Performs ******* motion*) and we got the date put off and the cop wasnt even there. We paid anyways, but at a drastically reduced price because we knew we were guilty. So if the cop does show up just talk to the judge and if nothing with your case you should be able to get the price of the ticket dropped.
the cop said it wouldnt affect any points in my license if i paid, some people tell me he could be lying...its my first offense. I'll just take it to court to be safe, I'd hire a lawyer but only if it guarantees my innocence...if not, Ill just buy a suit and act like somethings up my *** (no offense to all of you lawyers flocking around the EvoM forums)

Here in Minnesota we have the "continuance without prosecution" also known as a "CWOP". If someone has a clean driving record for the last two years, they should allow them to pay an administrative fee of about $120, then as long as they don't get any moving voilations for the next year, that ticket is wiped off their record, like it never happened. Insurance company never finds out about it.
I know this for a fact because I'm currently on my third CWOP in the past four years! I've even been pulled over after the "probationary" year is up, and the cop lets me off with a warning, saying "well, you've got a clean record"
Sorry I don't know about the laws in other states, and even in Minnesota it varies by county, but I highly recommend checking into a CWOP option.
Another idea is to see if there's a city ordinance voilation you could plead to instead of a moving voilation. A few years back I was stopped going 65 in a 40 and got a hefty speeding ticket from the State Patrol. But because the infraction occured within the city limits of Minneapolis, I was able to plead guilty to a city ordinance voilation of "unreasonable acceleration" which is a petty misdemeanor. So now I have a criminal record of sorts, which is kinda cool, but insurance companies and cops have no record of that speeding ticket because it was dropped in the plea bargain.
