i actually went to a subaru dealer first. the sales person was a d!k. one of those i know it all type people. after talking for about 30minutes he said that i could NOT take out the STI because they dont want people to test drive them, so he handed me the keys to a regular WRX and said "picture this with 90 more HP". well his next mistake was not getting in the car with me (they didnt require the sales person to go along on test drives) well at that point i knew i wasnt going to buy a car from that guy so that was their mistake because i trashed that car. he also said that they would not let go any STI to anyone for less than $36,000, haha
so i left, drove to a mitsu dealer and bought my car that same day.
3 weeks later i stopped by the subby dealer (its 1/2 mile from my house) and i walked around the lot and yes all 7 of his STI were there and so was my "test drive car". when i got back to my car i see the stupid as_ sales person starring at my car
the funniest thing is that the sales guy actually owns a 2003 EVO. it was pretty funny hearing him trying to explain why he owns an EVO and why i should buy the STI....
i am really happy that it happened that way because i ended up with a better car and also saved about 5G's!!! another plus is that here there are very few EVo's and subaru's in evry corner. guess its true what they say "subaru's are like panties, every puss_ got one"
thanks subaru....

Newbie
i test drove my friends brand new 06 sti a few days befor i got my evo...the seats werent as racey feeling, they felt super wide...shifting wasnt as nice, the power was kinda weird, wasnt as smooth as the evo...
oh and every person and there mom has a subaru, so its a lil old and the evo is alot more rare...plus it was $8k more than what i paid for my evo IX
i personally like the look of the evo so much more, plus there is alot of mitsubishbi dealerships around where i live and my parents can get all parts at wholesale prices through them since they own a autoshop

i did not own STI but drove it on multiple ocassions.
I prefer evo, obviously, but one things that strikes me about some of the responses here is that evo costs less than sti, it must be a lot of California folks here where dealers have 100 of these sitting on their lots and selling them at invoice.
In New England, especially now, you will not get an ove for too much off Window sticker. So forgetting the RS which you cannot compare to an sti, you must compare an STI to an MR (at least because of the 6 speed tranny)
STI MSRP is about 33K
MR MSRP is about 37K
So please explain to me how is it that many people here are saying the EVOs are cheaper???
Even the IX non SSL lists out at aroung 32K. I could have gotten a brand new 06 STI for just over 30K,
Anyhow, just a bit confused here
PS

Why can't I compare an RS or base IX to an Sti? That's just silly. By the same logic, you can't compare a IX to an Sti since the Sti has cruise control.Originally Posted by pltek

I couldnt afford both
The main reason why I got the evo is because of the proven engine platform of our evo.
The 2.5 in the sti was fairly new at the time and the evo's engine is a bit more mod friendly.

I think RS can be compared directly to STi when talking strictly performance.
5-spd on RS isn't much of a toll, indeed some people claim that 5-spd is much beefier for track use or hard driving. I think in general rating STi or EVOs on it's interior qualities/features is like rating Shreck for his table manners. Irrelevant!
If RS can kick as much butt as STi it's a better value because no one buys either to have luxury, climate control, cruise control, adjustable power seats with massagers. People buy STi and EVO for it's "go fast" ability.

I got the evo over the STi because I don't like the interior made of 100% genuine smurf skin.
