i owned two subies prior to the evo, and loved them both. but the steering and responsiveness of the evo is incredible and becomes more enjoyable daily. my car is a daily driver and i find it comfortable, although i switched to all-seasons which helped soften the ride a little. i also prefer the styling on the evo. plus it only has one big-a** wing instead of two!

I don't like that the window doesn't have a frame around it in the STi or on my GSX for that matter. Nothing worse than a window that flops around and rattles when shutting the door with the window down. Add to that the fact that Subarus sound like they are missing and that's normal and you've got enough pet peeves for me to stay Mitsu The real reasons everyone else already said but these are mine!

I drove an STi and didn't dig it - I felt like a passenger. The Evo seemed more direct. Maybe I liked the Evo so much because I drove it right after an RX8. beh.

Actually, the STi hood is larger than the one used on the wagon and the WRX, that is, until 2006. Cost savings at its best.

you made my point.

you need to compare apples to apples by picking 1(one) EVO model that comes closest to the STI since STI only comes in one flavor,... and that model is MR

Again MR is about 4K more expensive than an STI

If you compare an RS to an an STI, yes its cheaper but thats not realistic, since the STI gets tons of features like HID, 6-speed, auto-climate, 6disck cd changer, wing, abs, cruise control, and more.

If you are not seeing these features as actually worth money then why is the MR 7000USD more expensive than the RS???

The GSR model (or is it now just the "standard model?") is the closet to the STi/STI's price. Just because a car has an extra gear doesn't mean anything. If anything, the MR would be the equivalent of an S203 or S204 if Subaru brought one to the States. The MR's suspension is even more advanced than the "GSR" suspension.

A lot of what you had can be optioned out on the "GSR" model. FWIW, I've never used my cruise control (other than to see if it actually worked when I bought the car.....), plus, the "GSR" already comes with a wing (like the STi/STI), along with ABS (like the STi/STI), HID (I'm pretty sure the Evo has HID), and as for the climate control, the STi/STI hardly has "climate control" Every car made since the lord knows when has a "climate control." The only difference is that the STi's/STI's has numbers on it.

The only thing that I notice is that whenever the STi/STI is compared to the Evo, it's almost always compared with the MR instead of a "GSR." Who knows why that is; maybe that's all the magazines can get to test, but whatever the case, a magazine article has never swayed my decision to purchase one car over another.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It sucks when magazines always pick the MR to test against an STI. I'm not saying that you can't, but I wish the standard IX would be pitted against the STI more often, since to this day I can only recall ONE actual head-to-head road test of a standard IX against an STI (edmunds.com). It has pretty much all the amenities of the MR, and is a lot cheaper. Unfortunately, the MR's higher price is always mentioned in magazine articles and tends to be its weakness, hence Motor Trend putting it in 2nd place in their comparison from a few months ago. When the Evo VIII first came out, it was being tested against the STi and beating it out, so I don't see why magazines always have to pick the MR when the standard model could always get the job done. The performance between the IX and MR are just too close, so there isn't a real credible reason for magazines always going with the MR.

I've wanted one for years. When the time came last year to buy a new car for myself I didn't hesitate to tell wifey I wanted an Evo. She asked me, "well, what else do you want? Maybe a 350Z?" Ha! How cute. She understood after the test drive. Best decision I've ever made. An STi wasn't even an option.

I really, really hated the new front design... and I like saying "Evo" more than "STi"... is that a valid reason? =P

Right now I'd steer clear of a 2007 sti. Seems suby screwed it up to make it pass LEV2. It has a nasty hesitation issue and befow 3000rpms feels like its in reverse. The best part of the old STI's where they had power and smooth turbo engagement from low rpms... and they screwed it up.

The tuners are say the map's look all funky too. The went from 500 lines (maps, whatever its called ... not a tuner sorry ) to over 700. Seems to lean out too much in certain places and the air pump they added might be the culprit causing the hesitations.

But I figure in 2 or 3 months the tuners will work it all out... As someone over at Nasioc said, the tuners must be loving this, it should increase business nicely.

I don't think he's poopin on his STi, he's being mature and acknowledging its shortcomings as well as the Evo's strengths.
