i really wanted an STI, but I got a great deal on the EVO and its a 2.0L engine so i can legally rally with it without doing an engine swap.

I had an '05 Sti... It just wasn't for me. If I had it both right now it would definitely get the step-child treatment...

If do don't plan to mod your car I say get an STI but if you plan to mod your car get an EVO. EVO's respond to mods alot better than STI's.

Bought the EVO because you don't have to worry about voiding the warranty with mods.

Because you don't have one from day one.

The Evo is to the point.
Its built for strait up Hard Core driving.

The STi is over priced and cost more to mod up

Go with the evo. I am a jamaican who now lives in Delaware and back in Jamaica we got the all the evo lines from the very first one, straight from Japan. We also got the Galant VR4. I loved going to the races and seeing these cars perform, from the rallies through the sugar cane fields, the bauxite mines, rivers etc. to the tarmac tracks, the Mitsubishi is a stellar perfomer. Both these cars used the 4G63 motor and it is a tried, tested and proven motor, a rally/race bred engine. For what u are looking for, you can't go wrong with the evo. All those years of R&D has resulted in a truly amazing drivetrain. In my opinion go with the EVO FTW. I bought my first evo on 7/11/05, I waited two weeks for it to get to the dealership and was there when they were taking it off the trailer. I LOVE THIS CAR. I have driven an STI and would NEVER give up my evo...................well maybe for an IX MR .
GOD I LOVE THIS CAR..............wait, I said that already......oh well

Everyone is entitled to thier own opinion, and one that I am starting to disagree with slightly is how much money it costs to mod an STi. Or that STi's respond poorly to mods, I compare the costs of things for both vehicles all the time and it really doesnt seem too much different to me (certain things are, but things like turbos and intercoolers, injectors etc..aren't). Also I think the STi responds well to simple bolt-ons, I put down 275 horse and 303 ft-lb's of torque on Buschur Racing's dyno and all my STi has done to it is a Perrin 3" catless downpipe and a dyno tune at 19 psi. That's a few more horsepower and like 40 more ft-lb's than a BR 350 EVO 9 puts down on that dyno, and it only cost me around 1300$ total for the downpipe, EM, and tune. Also I have more total area under the curve due to the extra displacement, but hey don't get me wrong the STi does have it's short coming's, as do most any car out there no matter what the price. Either way the EVO is one hell of a car, and if my friend hadn't already owned one by the time I bought my STi than I might have bought an EVO it's hard to say.

I bought an 04' STI, right before I bought my Evo. I had to get rid of it though, because the previous owner modded it and I was having problems.

They are both awesome cars, but, I like the Evo better. I like the quick steering on the Evo a lot better than that of the STI. Which made the Evo seem a lot more "tossable." Though, I could really go either way. The STI had a lot less turbo lag and was easier to launch. I like the looks of the Evo a little bit better too. That's totally a matter of opinion though. I'd be happy with either one!

That's what I've been told!

Isn't it nice of Mitsubishi to support their customers that hand them $30,000+ of their hard-earned cash?

They really don't respond all that poorly to mods, but they are more expensive to mod than the Evo. I think the majority of the issues come from the just-adequate turbo and the complexity of the engine management.

As an example, straight from SPT (Subaru Performance Tuning), they claim that with their CATBACK exhaust, COLD AIR INTAKE, and HEAT SHIELD that the STi/STI will yield an additional 40 hp/25 ftlbs tq to the wheels, if I recall correctly (I'll check to make sure it WAS at the wheels, and then post back...). They claim they had dynoed the car. Whether it's true or not, who knows?

I think when going all out on mods, the Evo is the way to go, but just for adding a few mods to enhance the driving experience and having a slightly less-hardcore ride, the STi is great.
